Some shop owners left out from Biya’s 73 million compensation scheme in Bamenda
There was an atmosphere of mixed feelings as the victims of the fire outbreak of the 14 of March in the Bamenda food market were compensated on the 5/05/2017. Sources say the head of state and his wife sent an envelope containing 73 million Francs to compensate the victims of the fire breakout on the 14 of March; they say some shop owners were stranded as they were not compensated. According to reports, some victims remain hopeless and in a state of confusion as they were hopefully relying on the support that was to come from the state. “I was not given a penny as compensation to the lost of my shop. When this fire incident happened last 2 months we were promised to receive aid and also the rebuild of our shops. Today am given nothing as compensation. Others who had smaller shops have been compensated. I want the head of state to see into this” says an uncompensated victim furiously. While others were angry for not being compensated others were very happy as they were among the names of those to be compensated. “I am so happy today as I have been given the sum of 3.7 million as compensation to my burnt shop. The head of state and his wife have removed my family and I from hopelessness. There is hope now with this money given to us” says a recipient.
