Southern Cameroons: Inter tribal war feared as Babessi and Bangolan clash over farm land

Babessi and Bangolan are two villages in the Ngoketunjia division of the Northwest Region.

Eye witness account reports that the conflict broke out as a certain young man by name  Nditapah Philemon, a Bangolan native entered into fierce fighting with some Babessi people over a portion of farm land in Ngotemuko, (a piece of land which separates the two villages: and has been a zone of dispute for years now) 

 

Seeing that he was being overpowered,  the said Philemon  quickly alerted soldier boy, a chief rebel and anti Fon Chafah of Bangolan who brought his gang and had the Babessi people well beaten before abducting some and took them to the market square in Bangolan.  The D.O of Babessi hearing this intervened and the  rebels released the captives and fled. On his way back,  the D.O met thousands of Babessi men heading to Bangolan with all types of weapons ready for war.

 

The  chef terre in his capacity as the head of the subdivision, managed to appease the Babessi warriors and asked them to drop down their arsenals and sort dialogue.

 

But at  press time, the population of Babessi had blocked the road leading to Bangolan and filtering entry and exit and checking identification documents of all while promising  to invade Bangolan one of these days.

 

Bangolan has been devastated following the ongoing chieftaincy crisis. More than 20 people have been killed, over 50 houses burned down , hundreds of people have also been banished from the village by a group of youths who now controls the village meanwhile score of others are detained in the Ndop central prison awaiting trial.

 

Even though this is happening at a time when Southern Cameroons needs to be more united to win its battle of restoration. 

 

Many are suspecting a hidden hand of la republic behind this misfortune struggling to play its divide and rule game.
