Successful Second Edition of Michi Ebeng Cultural Festival Celebrated in Guneku
The vibrant sounds of music, the colorful display of traditional costumes, and the aromatic flavors of local cuisines filled the air as the second edition of the Michi Ebeng Cultural Festival unfolded at the Guneku Fon's palace on Saturday, March 23, 2024.
This two-day extravaganza, which kicked off with a marathon sponsored by Guneku elite in the USA, attracted over 500 attendees and marked a significant milestone in celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Grassfields people worldwide.
The Michi Ebeng Festival stands as the largest cultural event in recent history within the entire Momo Division in the North West Region of Cameroon. It serves as a platform to unite Meta natives and non-natives alike, offering an immersive experience into the diverse customs, traditions, languages, and arts of the Grassfields Cultural Heritage.

Despite starting with a modest crowd, the festival quickly gained momentum, with participants and spectators alike braving the rain to partake in the festivities. From arts and craft exhibitions to lively traditional dances, the event showcased the vibrant tapestry of Grassfields culture in all its glory.
A highlight of the festival was the participation of esteemed Fons from the Meta region, including Fominyen of Nyen, Fombo of Njindom, Forembeng of Gundom, and others, who added a touch of regality to the proceedings.

Adding to the excitement, the Guneku Development and Cultural Association (GUDECA) North America Branch sponsored a cross-country race, underscoring the global reach of the Michi Ebeng Festival. Athletes competed in various categories, with winners set to receive cash prizes and trophies during the festival.
In the eagerly anticipated Kwem dance competition, 13 Kwem dance groups showcased their talents, representing different villages and regions. The Kwem dance of Guneku emerged triumphant, capturing the top spot, followed by Buea and Tuochup, who secured second and third place, respectively.
As the echoes of celebration fade, the success of the Michi Ebeng Cultural Festival serves as a testament to the enduring spirit of unity and pride in Grassfields culture. With each edition, the festival reaffirms its position as a beacon of cultural heritage, fostering camaraderie and appreciation for the rich traditions that define the Grassfields community.
