Teachers strike takes a dramatic turn; social media tells a different story altogether
Although with the physical eye one can see that the striking teachers appear to be holding the government by the testis for non-payment of advances, the social media seems to be saying the reverse.
According to the social media, the so called teachers strike for the non-payment of salary advances is a mere government device to prove to the international community that Cameroon is a democratic state and always ready for dialogue.
Others say, judging from the cooperation of the strike leaders with the government, it is clear that they were installed by the government; they say government may be attempting to stage a perfect strike where the organized and highly cooperative striking teachers will be very willing to yield to dialogue thereby showing to the whole world that the government is always ready for negotiation no matter the situation.
Social media critics say if government is trying to vindicate itself by indirectly staging a strike, then it is an expensive joke; they say such a strike could escalade to uncontrollable levels if care is not taken.
Onlookers remain confused about the situation. "I see the teachers on TV really striking" says an onlooker. "It is hard to believe that this is a staged strike" he adds.
Although nobody is sure of the assertions made on the social media, pundits say there is no smoke without fire. Others say it is the end that justifies the means.
