The Bopda Case: Prosecutor Challenges Negative HIV Tests, Calls for New Examination

Despite the transfer of jurisdiction, the resolution of the Bopda affair remains elusive, with new developments emerging in the ongoing investigation.

After a visit to the Court of First Instance of Douala-Ndokoti, Hervé Bopda finds himself at the center of renewed scrutiny as the Police Judiciary of Bonanjo completes its investigation. The prosecutor overseeing the case has deemed the evidence gathered thus far to be comprehensive. In light of this assessment, a fourth serological test has been requested for Hervé Bopda, following three previous tests that yielded negative results. The forthcoming test, to be conducted at the prestigious Center Pasteur, is expected to provide increased reliability and clarity regarding Bopda's HIV status.

In addition to the serological examination, efforts to reconstruct deleted messages from one of the complainants have been initiated, with the involvement of the National Agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ANTIC). The aim is to gather crucial evidence to bolster the case against Bopda.

The decision to transfer the case from the Military Court to civilian jurisdictions was made after it was determined that no military offenses were involved. However, the gravity of the allegations against Bopda remains paramount, with accusations ranging from serial rape and sodomy to abduction and threats with a firearm. The Universal Lawyers for Human Rights Defense (ULHRD) has filed a complaint with the government commissioner in Douala, alleging violence and intimidation, coupled with illegal possession of weapons.
