Two dead in collision between car and truck near Likoma, Tiko-Douala road
Two people died at the scene of a crash between a truck belonging to SUPERMONT and a car on the Douala-Tiko road precisely at Likomba early today.
An oxblood Toyota car and a heavy duty truck crashed on Tuesday at about 1 pm at Likomba.
Multiple eyewitnesses at the scene of the accident said that, the SUPERMONT truck crushed the Toyota Corolla which was on high speed from Victoria, heading to Douala.
Two persons were confirmed dead on the spot while others who sustained injuries, were rushed to nearby hospitals in critical conditions.
This accident comes barely two weeks after the Muyuka accident in which over 20 souls were lost.
The poor state of some vehicles that ply our road, coupled with drivers' poor mastery of the Highway Code, have only helped in making a sufficiently worrying situation worse.
Today, most drivers are more concerned with the amount of money they make from each trip, than with their passengers' safety. This is why over-loading has become the order of the day and almost a "legalized crime" among transporters. The situation is even getting out of hand with more commercial motorcycles now plying our roads.

Despite poor roads and questionable road conduct, many passengers encourage or force drivers to indulge in risky speeding on grounds they have to reach their destinations in time and this sometimes leads to fatal accidents.
