Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

Members of the University of Buea Chapter of National Union of University Teachers, SYNES, have maintained that the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences, FSMS, must not be split into other faculties as intended by the Minister of Higher Education.

In a release signed by Chapter President Dr James A. Abangma and Secretary General Dr Fontem A. Neba, the Unionists say it will not be proper to remove the nomenclature “Social Sciences” which has been used since the creation of the University of Buea.

They added that the nomenclature reflects the Anglo-Saxon tradition. According to Wednesdays’ Issue of The Guardian Post Newspaper, the lecturers also frown on poor funding of the University.

They revealed that for many years subsidies have been very small and that the situation is having an adverse effect on lecturers as bonuses cannot be paid on time. If split as planned by the Ministry of Higher Education, the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences will now have Faculties of Law, Economics and Management, Law School and School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
