University Official Faces Legal Consequences Following Court Decision
In a recent development, the court in Dschang has issued an arrest warrant against Professor Jean Gatsi, the Technical Advisor to the Rector of the University of Dschang. This decision comes in the case of the Public Ministry and Professor Joseph Keutcheu versus Professor Jean Gatsi.
After careful consideration, the court, in a contradictory ruling, has acquitted the accused of the charges of conditional threats and simple threats for unsubstantiated offenses. However, Professor Gatsi has been found guilty of defamation, malicious denunciation, and defamation through electronic communication.
As a punitive measure, the court acknowledges his status as a first-time offender and imposes a fine of 2,500,000 francs. Additionally, he is ordered to pay the costs, amounting to 28,965 francs. The court stipulates that he must settle the monetary penalties, totaling 2,528,965 francs, immediately upon his incarceration. Failure to do so will result in a compulsory two-year imprisonment.
Furthermore, Professor Gatsi is directed to pay a nominal amount as symbolic damages to the victim for moral injury. The court has issued a mandate for his immediate incarceration in connection with the verdict. The legal proceedings highlight the gravity of the charges brought against the university official.
