Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

Following prefectural order No.091/A/MINATD/DOT/DSOA/SCT addressed to the governor of South West region and the minister of territorial administration and decentralization, the Senior Divisional Officer for Meme David Koulbout Aman fired Chief Jomo Motale Otte of Big Bekondo, Mbonge Sub division in Meme, South West region from his throne. The SDO made it public that Chief Jomo Motale was detroned for alleged engagement in cheating, corruption and extortion of funds from his subjects.

The third class traditional ruler was stripped off his royal function on May the 27, 2014. Under the current Biya administration, Chief Jomo Motale ceases to exercise authority in the Big Bekondo chiefdom from the date the SDO's order. Cameroon Concord ordered an investigation into the the goings-on in Big Bekondo. A number of sources have intimated that the Senior Division Officer was misled by anti Chief Jomo Motale forces into signing the prefectural order. Others have claimed that the SDO acted on instructions from the paramount leader of Meme Chief V.E. Mukete.

Cameroon Concord can now reveal that the dethronement of Chief Jomo Motale Otte is another Francophone Beti-Ewondo ploy to undermine our traditional institutions in the South West region. Chief Jomo Motele is noted for speaking out against the CPDM regime and fighting for the plight of his people. The facts now show that the said chief was never implicated in any acts of cheating and corruption. On the contrary, he was instrumental in stopping francophone administrators from grabbing land belonging to the people of Bekondo.

The question now arises as to whether the SDO was pressured, rushed or misled into signing that order. Why only in anglophone Cameroon can a government agent intervene in royalty? Cameroon Concord is calling on the Prime Minister and Head of Government to overrule the SDO's prefectural order and reinstate His Royal Highness Chief Jomo Motale back to his traditional duties as leader of the Big Bekondo people.
