Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

Commercial bike riders in the Yaounde 4 municipality have taken to the streets in a wild demonstration against what they term "gross exaggeration of demands ". Council authorities who are known for their constant harassment went out this morning June 7th seizing all commercial bikes without a first aid box. The municipal authorities on their parts say they have given the bikers enough time to meet up with this requirement. One of them noted that, it is for the benefit of the motor bike riders and their passengers who are all the times involved in accidents.

The bikers who say no to this measure are disgruntled and say the council is milking them dry. They have taxes, windscreen license, daily council dues and many other charges expected of them. More to that, the council has not given us  the exact contain of the first aid box, so how do you expect us to know which drug to buy and which not to. One of the bikers lamented.

Health experts observing the situation say it is not possible for commercial bike riders to carry about first aid boxes with drugs running 'up and down' under the sun and even when it rains. What becomes of the state of the medications? A medical doctor expressed her worries to Cameroon Concord.

This ugly situation has created chaos and commotion  around the municipality as the population found it very difficult this morning to reach their job sites.Biya's brutal forces were quick to arrive the scene with instructions to suffocate and quench the brouhaha. But the radical bikers who are known for their unity and tenacity say if the authorities do not reverse the decision, they wouldn't give up their action. At press time, the situation remained tense as negotiations are underway.

This upheaval comes at the heels of so many other socio economic manifestations which has taken place in Yaounde. Looking at all these dramatic happenings in mr Biya's kingdom, one will be tempted to believe that the Biya rigime is at the 'end of the tunnel' according to Dr Eyong Tah, a political analyst in one of his television debates on vision4 TV in Yaounde recently.
