Issa Tchiroma, Minister of Communication and government spokesman on Friday, 29 January 2016 revealed that Cameroon Defence Forces and Security are a target for international blackmail from some foreign media. The minister was reacting to alleged abuses by Cameroonian soldiers under the pretext of fighting Boko Haram.
The Nigerian desk of the Associated Press had accused the Cameroonian Army in what it considered mass killings of civilians in Nigeria including looting and burning of villages. Minister Issa Tchiroma observed that these allegations were then taken up by news sites and by some foreign media, "to try to give them a global resonance and curb the momentum of defeating Boko Haram by the Cameroonian Army". Issa Tchiroma Bakary said the foreign media houses were involved in the practice of yellow journalism.
Issa Tchiroma noted that military operations in Nigerian territory within the area described by Associated Press were carried out by the 1st military sector of the Joint Multinational Task Force supported under Nigerian military command.

The Minister of Higher Education, Prof Jacques Fame Ndongo has announced the creation of more institutes of higher education in the country. The controversial cabinet minister outlined his Ministry’s principal projects for the New Year, 2016 saying more universities will emerge this 2016.
Hon. Fame Ndongo noted that top on his Ministry’s plan of action remains the implementation of the Pan African University Year in Yaounde and the construction of the Cameroon – Congo University in Sangmelima. The Minister amongst other things, called on students to be more creative this year.

The Chairperson of the National Commission for Human Rights and Freedoms (NCHRF), Dr Chemuta Divine Banda participated in the first national forum organized on prison conditions by an NGO, Centre D’Orientation Educative du Cameroon (COECAM). The three-day meeting that held from the 27th January to the 29th, centred on improving prison conditions in the country.
During the session, Dr Chemuta Divine Banda emphasized that prisons should remain corrective centres where the rights of detainees are upheld. The representatives of COECAM for their part, called for greater synergy between private and public partners towards ameliorating the living conditions of prisoners. The European Union and some European Diplomats also took part in the session. Statistics indicate that the number of inmates in Cameroon have increased over the years, leading to overcrowding in prisons.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Henry Eyebe Ayissi has received in audience the French Ambassador to Cameroon, Christine Robichon. During the meeting, the French Diplomat announced that her Government will offer the sum of 150 billion CFAF to boost the agricultural sector in Cameroon.
The money will contribute towards increasing productivity in the agricultural sector and the creation of jobs. The donation is within the framework of the Debt Relief Fund, the C2D.

Two Government Ministers recently traveled to Wum in the Menchum Division of the North West Region to assess the situation following the uproar after a soldier allegedly stabbed a bike rider, Ngong Leonard to death. Both Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization, Rene Emmanuel Sadi and Minister of Defence, Joseph Beti Assomo got to Wum via an helicopter extended the Head of State’s condolences to the bereaved family saying the country is a state of law hence the President condemns the act of the murderer and the consequent vandalism carried out by the population.
As investigations continue on the matter, the Ministers indicated that they will report the situation to the Head of State who will make sure the culprits face the law. Cameroon Concord's Wum correspondent who contributed to this report noted that the Cameroonian dictator acted appropriately over the crisis.

Three students onboard a motorbike and the bike rider died in Nlonako on Wednesday 27 after their bike collided head-on with a public transport mini bus. Two of the three students, Ndouanla and Nyadjomo, and the bike rider yet to be identified died on-the-spot while the last student who survived the accident died in the Nkongsamba Regional Hospital early yesterday morning. As the story unfolds, the victims who are all form three students in Government Bilingual High School Njombe, travelled to Nkongsamba in the Moungo Division to cheer their school mates taking part in an interschool competition dubbed school challenge.
On their way back to Njombe, the bike they board collided with the mini bus at about 6:30pm at Nlonako in the Moungo Division. Immediately, the Divisional Ofiicer for Nlonako, Brigade Commander and Fire Fighters from Nkongsamba arrived the scene, took the bodies and wounded to the mortuary and hospital respectively. Just one person was wounded in the mini bus while all four onboard the bike died. The accident is blamed on excess speed and non respect of the road code.
