Bishop's death : Paul Biya to address Clergymen on Monday
President Paul Biya will speak before the bishops of Central Africa on Monday, as the men of God meet in Cameroon.
The plenary meeting of the bishops of Central Africa is underway in Yaoundé.
When the president meets the bishop at the Yaoundé Conference Centre, the mysterious death of Bishop Jean Marie Benoit Balla is likely to feature on the agenda , as the incident becomes more and more controversial.
Recent preliminary inquiries into the death revealed that the bishop had 'possibly drowned '. There was 'no trace of physical violence on the corpse', they say.. So murder was unlikely in the meantime.
But then catholic bishops in Cameroon had declared last month that their brother was "brutally murdered".
They had also urged the Biya regime to shed light on the matter as soon as possible.
In the meantime, the regime has not yet taken a stance on the incident.
Bishop Balla reportedly went missing for about three days before being spotted on the banks of River Sanaga. His car was found on the bridge over the river with a rather controversial note,"I'm in the water".
