Buea Magistrates’ Court Rubbishes Law Suit Against Anglophone Church Leaders, Throws It Out
After several months of winding hearings, numerous adjournments and uncertainty, the Buea Magistrates’ Court (Court of First Instance) has finally adjudicated on the case pitting the Anglophone Church Leaders and the Consortium of Parents.
The Court, led by its President, Justice Beatrice Nabangi Ntuba, decided to throw the case out of the court for not being legal binding.
The Court took the landmark decision today, September 25, 2017 after a brief hearing.
damages. This September 25 verdict will thus lay the issue to Bed.
The Anglophone Clerics namely Bishops Cornelius Fontem Esua, Immanuel Bushu, George Nkuo, Agapitus Nfon, Andrew Nkea and Michael Bibi, the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, PCC, Rt. Rev. Fonki Samuel Forba, and the Executive Secretary of the Cameroon Baptist Convention, Rev. Ncahm Godwill Chiatoh, have been standing trail at the Bamenda and Buea Courts of First Instance for a seven count charge.
The clergymen are accused by a little known Consortium of Parents, whose Children are in Mission Schools, of issuing a communiqué to “jeopardize national unity, not asking parents to send their children to school, or to cause the deposit of school fees paid into an escrow account, refusal to either teach, feed or accommodate their children or refund school fees collected for the purpose.”
The charges also include “failure to pay the salaries of teachers with the consequences that the State is deprived of necessary tax deductions, attempts to justify grievances and apprehension carried out against the security of the State”.
The Consortium of Parents was demanding FCFA 150 billion from the clerics as damages. This September 25 verdict will thus lay the issue to Bed.
