Cameroon: Cicam workers cheat death after massive gas explosion
The cloth producing company commonly known as Cicam at the Bassa industrial zone in Douala, is under serious repairs following an explosion of one of its gas tanks. The incident occurred just one month after the company resumes from its annual sabbatical. Eyewitnesses testify that the incident occurred at a time when maintenance works were being carried out on one of the company’s gas tanks.
Even though no life was lost, the incident left two of the technicians wounded coupled with some material damage. The flames were severe to an extent whereby the Fire Fighting Brigade at Ngodi in Douala grappled with it for one hour. The two victims are presently responding to treatment at the hospital, and work has effectively resumed at the factory. The Senior Divisional Officer, for Wouri Naseri Paul Bea, together with his collaborators paid a visit at the crisis scene to examine the damage done.
