Cameroon: Families of people killed in the Eseka train accident have sued Bolloré Railway. .
A group of families of victims of the Eseka train disaster have launched legal proceedings against Bolloré Railways, the majority shareholder of the Cameroon Railway Company, Camrail.
CAMEROON TODAY learnt that the complaint was filed on November the 2nd, 2016 at Eseka, located some 128 km from Yaoundé, where the tragedy occurred. While investigations by public prosecutors from Mfoundi and Eseka are still ongoing to determine what actually caused the accident, lawyers representing the families are pointing fingers at some technical failures which according to them created the October 21st drama.
The groups of lawyers defending the families have also issued a statement saying a similar action could be taken before French courts. Cameroon government revealed that the train crash claimed the lives of 79 people. Independent sources have however, contested the figure and denounced the pro-government commission appointed by President Biya which secretly agreed to vindicate transport minister, Edgar Alain Mebo Ngo’o.
