Cameroon Launches Investigation into Assault on Musician Longuè Longuè
Yaoundé, October 24, 2024 — The Ministry of Defense has officially announced the launch of an investigation after a video went viral on social media showing scenes of violence inflicted on the Cameroonian musician Longkana Agno Simon, better known as Longuè Longuè.

The video, which surfaced on the morning of October 23, 2024, depicts an assault that the artist claims was carried out by members of the Littoral Military Security Antenna, stationed at the Douala Garrison, part of the Second Joint Military Region.
The incident, which initially took place in 2019, resurfaced when Longuè Longuè managed to obtain and publicly share footage of his ordeal. This revelation has drawn national attention, prompting the Minister Delegate to the Presidency in charge of Defense to act swiftly. In response, he ordered an immediate investigation by the Ministry's specialized services to determine the circumstances and identify those responsible.
The Ministry's official statement assured the public that a thorough inquiry would be conducted, emphasizing that all necessary steps would be taken in accordance with existing laws and regulations to ensure accountability. The outcome of the investigation is expected to clarify the details of this regrettable episode, establish accountability, and enforce the appropriate consequences.
Longuè Longuè's Trauma Revisited
In an exclusive interview with Jeune Afrique, Longuè Longuè, who was the victim of brutal treatment in the premises of the Military Security in Douala five years ago, described the severe impact of the incident on his life. The musician, visibly shaken as he recalled the episode, spoke candidly about his trauma and the long struggle he has faced since that day.
Longuè Longuè detailed his brutal experience upon arrival at the SEMIL (Military Security) facility, describing it as nothing short of a "carnage." Despite his public persona as a lively entertainer, the artist appeared visibly distressed during the interview, conducted in Paris at a café opposite Gare du Nord. It was clear that the resurfacing of this footage had reopened old wounds, yet he expressed a sense of determination in sharing his story and shedding light on what he describes as a grave injustice.
The musician's decision to release the video has sparked intense debate and outrage, with many calling for transparency and accountability from the military. Civil rights activists and supporters of Longuè Longuè have rallied around him, demanding justice and a thorough investigation into the incident.
Ministry of Defense's Commitment to Justice
Captain Cyrille Serge Atonfack Guemo, head of the Ministry's Communication Division, has assured the public that the investigation will be impartial and rigorous. In a press release, the Ministry reiterated its commitment to uncovering the truth, stating that the actions taken would be in strict adherence to the country's legal framework.
The release added, “Full light will be shed on this regrettable affair. Responsibilities will be established, and consequences will be drawn based on the results of the investigation, in accordance with the laws and regulations in force.”
The case has reignited discussions in Cameroon about the treatment of civilians by military personnel and the accountability of security forces. The investigation's findings will be eagerly awaited, with many hoping it will set a precedent for transparency and justice in similar cases.
As the story unfolds, Longuè Longuè remains steadfast in his determination to seek justice, both for himself and for others who may have experienced similar treatment. His public stand has already placed pressure on the authorities, signaling a potential turning point in the oversight and conduct of military operations within the country.
For now, the Cameroonian public—and Longuè Longuè's followers—await further developments, hoping that the promise of a fair and comprehensive investigation will lead to meaningful action and accountability.
