Cameroon: The body of bishops has castigated judicial report that bishop Balla drowned
The state and the church seems to be at dagger drawn over the cause of late bishop Jean Marie Benoit Balla's passing away.
The national episcopal conference of Cameroonian bishops have unanimously rejected and castigated the report of state judicial authorities published recently insinuating the late Bishop of Bafia, Jean Marie Benoit Balla drowned. The president of the body of Cameroonian bishops, mgr Samuel Kleda in a press briefing today July 8 2017 insisted without any fear of contradiction that, they still remain unshakeable on their initial stance that their colleague was brutally murdered by some malicious unknown individuals. This position taken by the clergymen is in sharp contrast with that of the state following inquiries carried out by top international experts in forensic investigations.
Samuel Kleda made this pronouncement today during a press briefing aimed at announcing the upcoming central African bishops conference in Cameroon. He was coerced to deviate from the agenda of the press briefing by journalists who fired in burning questions regarding Bishop Balla's demise. Some journalists asked to know if the church has received the remains of the prelate since the report indicated that it was handed over to the Christians for burial.... Samuel Kleda simply responded by saying, a corpse can not get missing.
The laxity and contempt with which the body of bishops are handling what has become today known as 'bishops Balla's affair' has given many who say the church has been taken hostage by politicians reason.
After all, popular opinion had expected the men of God to react immediately the communiqué signed by the attorney general of the Center court of appeal, Jean Fils Ntamack was read over the state broadcaster, CRTV. Its now crystal clear that there is a game of image protection in the affair, as the church does not want people to believe that a clergy committed suicide which is a sacrilege in the Christendom. Meantime, the government is reluctant to reveal certain hidden issues since most top state officials are allegedly implicated in the murder of mgr Balla. At the moment, the state is yet to react towards this war declared on her by the church.
