“I condemn in firm terms, the use of violence against civilian demonstrators most of whom are young people. The right to peaceful demonstration is an important political right as enshrined in Article 8 section 1d of the 1966 Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights,” he believes.

The Commonwealth Young Person of 2016 also endorses that:
“Equally, I use this opportunity to call on the civil society, religious and traditional rulers, international organisations and other actors of nation building in and out of Cameroon to engage in the most innovative and non-violent perspectives in solving this crisis. There is the need to broker a sustainable peace deal for both parties and de-escalate the violence.” 

His appeal comes hours after security used live bullets, water canons and tear gaz on angry youths determined not to allow the holding of a "provocative" rally of the ruling party in the country, the CPDM in the opposition fiefdom. They paid a hefty price for this mission as fresh information say at least three people are reported dead, scores in custody and many more injured. Calm is unlikely to return immidiately as troops are being ferried into the city from Koutaba, Limbe , Douala and Yaounde tonight raising fears of further brutality on unarmed citizens.

The US state Department has earlier raised concerns of Right violations over the inhumane crackdown on peaceful protesting lawyers and students of the University of Buea by security forces.

Government says it has sought appropriate avenues for dialogue. Observers however lash out that these efforts have gone with little commitment to see the issue resolved. As the military which has as duty to protect the masses is being used to suppress civil liberties undermining dialogue

The Secretary General of the CPDM Jean Kuete who was to chair today's failed meeting threatened the people of Buea against provoking security forces.While delivering his speech Tuesday he said the social media is giving fake news about the ongoing crisis and that external forces are trying to destabilize the country.
