Cameroonian Athletics Federation Addresses Tragic Death of Kenyan Athlete at Mount Cameroon Race
The Cameroonian Athletics Federation has issued a press release addressing the tragic death of Kenyan athlete Charles Kipsang Kipkorir during the 29th edition of the Race of Hope – Ascension of Mount Cameroon.
The press release highlights the success and international significance of the competition, emphasizing its role in promoting national unity and cohesion. It mentions the competitive nature of the race, initially led by Kenyan athlete Cheboi William Rutto but ultimately won by Cameroonian athlete Elvis Nsabinla.
Following Kipkorir's collapse at the conclusion of the race, medical teams immediately intervened to assist him. Despite their efforts, he tragically passed away during transport to the Buea Regional Hospital. The Cameroonian authorities, including the Governor of the South West Region and the President of the Cameroonian Athletics Federation, promptly visited the hospital to assess the situation and offer support.
An investigation into the incident has been initiated to determine the exact cause of Kipkorir's death. Additionally, a Psychological Assistance Unit has been established to provide support to the Kenyan athletes who participated in the race, as well as other affected individuals.
The President of the Cameroonian Athletics Federation personally conveyed the sad news to his Kenyan counterpart, extending condolences and support from the Cameroonian athletics community.
The press release concludes by acknowledging Kipkorir as a friend of Cameroon who had participated in the Race of Hope on multiple occasions, highlighting his significant connection to the event and expressing sorrow over his untimely passing.
