Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

Russia is set to materialize its project of constructing a military base in the Central African Republic, where the number of Russian troops contributing to army training and combating rebel groups has nearly doubled since September 2023.

Authorities in Bangui have designated land in Berengo, approximately 80 kilometers from the capital Bangui, for the Russians to station up to 10,000 soldiers, as reported by "Le Monde Afrique."

With this base strategically located in the heart of the continent, Russian troops will have the capability to monitor activities across West, East, North, and South Africa, approximately equidistant between the northern and southern regions and more rapidly from east to west, according to the same source.

The choice of the Central African Republic is justified by its proximity to Moscow and to President Faustin-Archange Touadera, a staunch supporter of Russia whose personal security has been entrusted to elements of the Wagner Group.
