Congolese Government Condemns Alleged Coup Attempt Against President Felix Tshisekedi
Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo- The Congolese government has strongly condemned what it described as a coup attempt targeting President Felix Tshisekedi.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Communication and Media, the government accused the perpetrators of trying to destabilize the country's institutions.
The alleged plot has sent shockwaves through the capital, Kinshasa, where residents have expressed their alarm and disbelief over the events that unfolded on Sunday morning.
**Residents React to the Coup Attempt**
Didier Tshinzu, a resident of Kinshasa, voiced his concerns, stating, “In any case, we're in a democratic country, so we can't accept these kinds of coups that are attempted at any time. This country has a president, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi, President of the Republic (Democratic of Congo). The enemies of peace are always looking for a coup d'état.”
**Accusations Against Christian Malanga**
The government statement identified Christian Malanga, a self-exiled political figure, as the mastermind behind the attempted coup. Malanga, who has been vocal in his opposition to President Tshisekedi's administration, is accused of orchestrating the plot from abroad.
**African Union's Stance**
The African Union (AU) has also condemned the coup attempt. In a statement released on Sunday, the AU chief denounced the actions aimed at undermining the democratic process and called for the respect of constitutional order in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
**Presidency's Silence**
As of now, there has been no official comment from the Congolese presidency regarding the coup attempt. The lack of a statement from President Tshisekedi's office has left many questions unanswered about the details and implications of the alleged plot.
The situation remains tense as the government continues to address the fallout from the incident. The international community and local authorities are closely monitoring developments to ensure stability and the rule of law in the country.
