FECAFOOT Asserts Authority Amidst Power Struggle
In a bold move, the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has declared its intention to appoint its own coaches, in direct defiance of the Cameroonian government's recent appointment of Marc Brys as the coach of the Indomitable Lions.
This latest development signals a deepening power struggle between FECAFOOT, led by Samuel Eto'o, and the government of Cameroon.
In an exclusive document obtained from reliable sources, it is revealed that an emergency meeting convened by Samuel Eto'o, FECAFOOT's president, saw the federation reaffirming its authority to nominate coaching staff for the national football teams. This decision comes as a direct response to the government's appointment of Marc Brys, which FECAFOOT refuses to recognize.
The communiqué issued after the extraordinary meeting held on April 6th, 2024, outlines FECAFOOT's stance on the matter. Present at the meeting were key members including Vice-Presidents and the Secretary General, who unanimously endorsed the resolutions put forth.
The Emergency Committee expressed concern over the government's unilateral appointment of the management structure for the Men's A Selection, noting that FECAFOOT was not involved in the process. This disregard for established procedures and regulations set forth by FIFA, CAF, and FECAFOOT prompted the committee to take decisive action.
Resolution No. 1 underscores FECAFOOT's commitment to upholding the rule of law and respecting the statutes and regulations governing football administration. The committee unanimously condemns the government's actions as a violation of established protocols.
Resolution No. 2 calls upon the President of FECAFOOT to swiftly propose nominations for the management structures of the national football selections within a strict timeframe of seventy-two hours. This proactive step aims to assert FECAFOOT's authority and ensure that the federation maintains control over crucial decision-making processes.

The standoff between FECAFOOT and the Cameroonian government threatens to escalate, potentially leading to the appointment of two separate coaching staff for the Indomitable Lions. Such a scenario could further exacerbate tensions and necessitate the intervention of a normalization committee to restore order and unity within Cameroon's football governance.
As this power struggle unfolds, the future direction of Cameroon's football administration hangs in the balance. FECAFOOT's assertion of authority underscores the importance of adherence to established procedures and the need for transparent and collaborative decision-making processes to safeguard the integrity of the sport.
This is a developing story. Stay tuned for further updates on this evolving situation.
