FECAFOOT Turmoil Unveiled: Social Media Buzzes Amid Eto'o and Brys Clash
On May 28, 2024, a heated altercation erupted at the FECAFOOT headquarters in Yaoundé between FECAFOOT President Samuel Eto'o and government-nominated coach Marc Brys, setting social media ablaze within the Cameroonian community and beyond.
The tension began when Marc Brys arrived with his assistants for a meeting at the FECAFOOT office. He left less than 15 minutes later, following a furious exchange of words with Samuel Eto'o and Cyrille Tollo, the Technical Advisor to the Ministry of Sports (MINSEP).
### The Altercation
The confrontation started when Cyrille Tollo attempted to assert MINSEP's authority, prompting Samuel Eto'o to respond:
**Cyrille Tollo**: "I forbid you. Don't raise your voice at me."
**Samuel Eto'o**: "Here, you do not have a say. Whenever I come to the ministry, I respect you. Here, I am the only boss. You can't do this. It should be the last time. Call for security to put him outside."
Turning to Marc Brys, Eto'o's frustration grew:
**Samuel Eto'o**: "Don't touch me like that."
**Marc Brys**: "You don't have to talk to me like that."
**Samuel Eto'o**: "I am the President, Mr. Coach. You are a coach because I appointed you, not because someone else appointed you. You have breached many rules. I implore you to stay in this meeting."
**Marc Brys**: "For two months that I've been here, where have you been?"
**Samuel Eto'o**: "I'm the President. You can't do this in Cameroon. There's just one person who does politics in Cameroon. It's Paul Biya."
**Marc Brys**: "But I am the one who decides."
**Samuel Eto'o**: "No, you don't decide...in your country, you wouldn't talk to me like this. Remember, as a footballer, you can never talk to me in this manner. Now, I'm the president, you don't talk to me in this manner. Okay? Which country do you think you are in? Can I do this in Belgium?"
**Marc Brys**: "You've never been a coach."
**Samuel Eto'o**: "I've been a coach."
**Marc Brys**: "For 3 weeks."
**Samuel Eto'o**: "I've been a great player."
**Marc Brys**: "Congratulations." (Attempts to shake Eto'o's hand, which Eto'o ignores.)
Marc Brys then walked out of the FECAFOOT office, with Eto'o declaring:
**Samuel Eto'o**: "As you move out, you'll never come back. Director, please convene my Executive Committee."
### Aftermath and Reactions
Following the altercation, FECAFOOT announced that Marc Brys was no longer the coach. Martin Ndtoungou Mpile was named interim coach, with David Pagou as his assistant. Sports analyst JP Remy Ngono commented that the new squad would consist of 26 players for the upcoming matches against Angola and Cape Verde. The list of players will be unveiled at a press conference on May 30, 2024.
**Patrick Mboma** on X (formerly Twitter): "Marc Brys believes he has understood Cameroonian football by addressing Samuel Eto'o. I deduce that they didn't explain it to him very well. Just saying."
**Boris Bertolt** on Facebook: "Paul Biya, the old man, you have only one choice to make: make this what you say: Death. That Ngoh Ngoh and ETO'O are eating. Until the day ETO'O decides to say to us what he says about what they have done and what we know. The chaos up to the lie."
**Henry Njalla Quan**, former vice-president of FECAFOOT, commented: "Some may see it as a courageous act, but it is simply an expression of frustration from a fraudster who has been caught in his own web and is trying to gain public sympathy, knowing full well that he has reached the end of the road! Watch and be enlightened."
Marc Brys responded to the incident, asserting that Eto'o went too far and clarifying that he is employed by the Ministry of Sports, not the federation.
### Upcoming Press Conference
Martin Ndtoungou Mpile, the interim coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, will hold a press conference on May 30, 2024, at 11 am, at the FECAFOOT conference room. He will unveil the list of players selected for the matches against Cape Verde and Angola.
A preparatory meeting, summoned by Sports Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, is scheduled for this afternoon, and it is expected that Samuel Eto'o will also be in attendance. This meeting is highly anticipated following the dramatic events at the FECAFOOT headquarters.
