FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup 2024: Cameroon Falls to Brazil 3-1 in the Round of 16
Cameroon’s journey in the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup 2024 ended in the Round of 16, with a 3-1 defeat against a more clinical Brazilian side.
The match started well for Cameroon, who were making their first-ever appearance in the knockout stage of a World Cup. The Lionesses U20 were determined to make the most of their opportunity against Brazil. Their efforts paid off when team captain Naomi Eto opened the scoring in the 24th minute, netting her fourth goal of the tournament.
However, the celebration was short-lived. Ten minutes later, Brazil equalized through a penalty awarded after a handball in the box. The score remained tied at 1-1 through regular time.
In extra time, the Lionesses U20 struggled to keep up, conceding two additional goals. The match also saw a setback with defender Estelle Yanga Zeh being stretchered off and taken to the hospital due to an injury.
Despite the disappointment and regret, Cameroon can hold their heads high after their historic World Cup run. Coach Hassan Balla’s team delivered solid performances throughout the tournament, with Naomi Eto standing out as a key player, scoring four goals.
