On Tuesday, January 16, 2024, a poignant funeral ceremony took place in a funeral home in the Bordeaux metropolis in France to pay a final tribute to the late Professor Joseph Owona, who passed away on January 6 at the age of 78 after a long illness.

The body removal and the coffin closing gathered the members of the deceased’s family, the Cameroonian community, as well as a large delegation of Cameroonian diplomats, led by HE André-Magnus Ekoumou, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Cameroon to the French Republic, accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Claire Ekoumou.{loadmoduleid 377}

The ceremony was marked by emotion, punctuated by glowing testimonies recalling the exceptional career of Professor Joseph Owona. His significant contribution to various fields, notably education and diplomacy, was praised by the assembly present. The disappearance of the Professor leaves a huge void, but his intellectual legacy and his commitment to the development of Cameroon will continue to inspire future generations.

On Wednesday, January 17, 2024, the mortal remains of Professor Owona will be repatriated to Yaoundé, marking the beginning of the national tributes. The Cameroonian authorities, the academic community, and the entire people will pay a final tribute to the deceased during the funeral that will take place in the Cameroonian capital. This step will mark a solemn moment of meditation and gratitude towards Professor Joseph Owona, whose positive impact will remain engraved in the history of Cameroon.
