Fuel Relief: Over 30,000 m3 of Premium Fuel Ship Docks at the Port of Limbé
In response to recent fuel distribution challenges causing tension, the Ministry of Water and Energy in Cameroon has taken proactive steps to alleviate the fuel deficit. On Friday, December 22, 2023, the Ministry joyfully announced that a ship carrying 30,000 m3 of premium fuel has successfully docked in Limbé, situated in the South-West region.
The Ministry shared this significant development via social media, stating, "A ship containing a cargo of 30,000 m3 of premium fuel docked at the port of Limbé on Thursday, December 21, 2023."
This positive news comes in the wake of a recent press release from the Ministry addressing the disruption in the supply of premium gasoline in key cities, including Yaounde, Douala, and Bafoussam. The Minister of Water Resources and Energy, Gaston ELOUNDOU ESSOMBA, clarified that the delay in the arrival of three vessels carrying the product was attributed to adverse weather and sea conditions, resulting in a four-day interruption in ship-to-ship loading at the hub port of Lome.
The Minister assured the public that one of the vessels has already docked in Douala with 13,000 m3 of Super. To expedite the restoration of normalcy, arrangements were made with the Cameroon Petroleum Depots Company (SCDP) to load 81 tanker trucks throughout the night of Sunday, December 10, until Monday, December 11, 2023. Additionally, railcars were loaded to bolster stocks.
The Minister emphasized that supplies are anticipated to return to regular operation by Tuesday, December 12. Further, he reassured the population that two more vessels containing Super will arrive within the week, ensuring an ample supply of fuel throughout the festive end-of-year period.
This strategic approach by the Ministry reflects a commitment to addressing immediate challenges and ensuring a stable fuel supply for the benefit of the nation.
