Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

"Thank you, President Biya for our laptops."

Hundreds of students in the capital city of Yaounde, Cameroon, march on the streets in support of Biya's 34-year rule and his "gift" of laptops to some university students.

Earlier, observers said the laptops were bought with taxpayers' money, and so there is no need to thank an individual for releasing the squeeze on their own rights.

"It is our right and not a privilege. How can citizens be thanking an individual for giving them their own rights," asked Timah Rene Rene, a researcher in politics and human rights.

The move, it is suspected, has political underpinnings.
