London: Several hurt in "terrorist" incident at tube station
'Terrorist incident' on London underground near Parsons Green prompts police investigation
Police and ambulance services are responding to a reported explosion at the London tube station. Witnesses described a chaotic scene with flames tearing through a tube car and passengers left with bad facial burns.
- London emergency and counterterrorism units responded to an incident in an underground car at the Parsons Green tube that took place around 8:20 a.m. (0720 UTC) on Friday morning.
- Police confirmed they are treating it as a "terrorist incident," though they have not confirmed the cause. Tube passengers described a fire in the car after an apparent explosion and commuters with bad burns.
- British Prime Minister Theresa May scheduled an emergency cabinet meeting for Wednesday afternoon at Whitehall. London Mayor Sadiq Khan will also attend.
London's Metropolitan police reported Friday that its Counter Terrorism Command unit was treating an incident on the London underground system as terrorism.
