Niger is considering a revision of agreements with countries that have military bases on its territory
Niger has informed the German, American, Belgian and Italian diplomatic representations that it will begin a renegotiation of the agreements which served as the basis for the presence of their military forces on Nigerien territory. #StepByStep #Sovereigns
Following the withdrawal of French soldiers, Niger seeks to establish a new era of military cooperation with nations hosting armed forces on its territory. In a statement, the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP) formalized this decision.
"Since the beginning of the mandate of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP) on July 26, 2023, Niger has firmly committed to asserting its sovereignty, safeguarding the homeland, and defending its interests," declared the military regime.{loadmoduleid 377}
In line with this and in response to the aspirations of the Nigerien people, the ministry informs all partner countries with military forces deployed on national territory that Niger will undertake a review of all agreements signed with these countries," the same statement specifies.
The CNSP emphasizes that, for this purpose, "a draft protocol of agreement will be submitted to them to give a new impetus to bilateral cooperation." Three countries are affected by this restructuring, namely the United States, Germany, and Italy.{loadmoduleid 378}
