PSI Advocates for Health Workers' Voices at WHO Executive Board Session
In a crucial gathering at the World Health Organization (WHO) Headquarters in Geneva, the 15th Executive Board session (EB154) is currently underway, spanning from January 22 to January 27, 2024. The Public Services International (PSI), as the sole organized labor body in official relations with the WHO as a Non-State Actor (NSA), is actively representing the voices of health and care workers and trade unions.
The primary objective of the EB154 is to formulate a provisional agenda for the upcoming 77th session of the World Health Assembly, scheduled for May 27 to June 1, 2024. Key agenda items addressing the concerns of health and care workers include Universal Health Coverage (UHC), the Draft Global Action Plan for Infection Prevention and Control, WHO's efforts in health emergencies, the Global Health and Peace Initiative, Social Determinants of Health, Climate Change and Health, and Economics and Health for All.
Among the distinguished delegates present is Dr. Manaouda Malachie, the Minister of Health representing Cameroon. Dr. Malachie, authorized by the Head of State, has been leading the Cameroonian delegation since January 21, 2024. In a recent update on his X handle, he stated, "With authorization from the Head of State, I have been leading the Cameroonian delegation to the 154th session of the WHO Executive Board in Geneva, Switzerland, since 21/1/2024. Many topics of interest to our country, including Universal Health Coverage, will be debated."
As the discussions unfold, the PSI is at the forefront, ensuring that the perspectives of health and care workers are heard and considered. The inclusion of topics such as UHC highlights the global commitment to providing accessible and quality healthcare for all. The presence of Cameroon's Minister of Health underscores the nation's dedication to addressing critical health issues on the international stage.
Stay tuned for comprehensive coverage as the WHO Executive Board session progresses, shaping the agenda for the 77th World Health Assembly and influencing global health policies.
