Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

On February 26, 2024, security forces successfully deactivated an improvised explosive device along the Galim-Keneghang stretch in Galim Ward, located in the Western Region of Cameroon.

The device, cleverly disguised as a telephone, was discovered as the sub-prefect of Galim, Tabi Chu Martin Agbor, and his delegation were en route to the royal palace of Bamendjing to partake in a traditional ceremony.

The origin and intended target of the explosive device remain shrouded in mystery, but suspicions abound that it was aimed at the sub-prefect's convoy. Eyewitnesses recount the tense moment when security elements abruptly diverted the delegation's path to ensure their safety upon the device's detection. Fortunately, the device did not detonate, averting potential tragedy.

Local sources speculate that separatist fighters from the neighboring crisis-ridden North-West region may be responsible for planting the device. Galim, situated near Balikumbat and Santa in the North-West, has previously faced threats from separatist incursions. In a recent incident on November 21, 2023, separatist fighters raided the Bamenyam market square, resulting in the loss of at least nine lives.

The newly installed sub-prefect of Galim has made combating insecurity in the area a top priority. Having previously collaborated with Governor Adolphe Lele Lafrique, the administrator brings a wealth of experience to his role, having assumed office on Thursday, January 18, 2024.

The attempted attack serves as a sobering reminder of the ongoing security challenges faced by communities in the region. Despite efforts to maintain peace and stability, the threat of violence looms large, necessitating continued vigilance and cooperation between security forces and local authorities. As investigations into the incident unfold, residents remain hopeful for a swift resolution to ensure the safety and well-being of all inhabitants.
