Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

Two female suicide bombers blew themselves up on Monday in the Far North region of Cameroon while trying to carry out attacks for Islamist militant group Boko Haram, local officials said.

The girls stuffed with bombs blew themselves up  in the Cameroonian town of Kolofata ( Far North Region) with no casualties.

After a few weeks of relative calm from suicide bombings and other criminal incursions perpetrated by the Islamist sect Boko Haram ,the group seems to be back to action with today's attempted attack

Last Thursday, for example , nine alleged members of the jihadist movement killed in Limani , near Kolofata , while two Cameroonian hostages, kidnapped a few days before , were rescued in Barkari , the Nigerian side of the border, thanks to the intervention of a vigilance committee setup by locals .

However , according to authorities, there has been a slowdown of terrorist acts from Boko Haram as concerted action from armies of Cameroon and Nigeria , supported by the Joint Multinational Force (FMM) , launched early April "Operation tentacle " had pounded heavily on the stronghold of the insurgent group, killing many and arresting dozens of its fighters

Boko Haram has waged a seven-year campaign for an Islamist state in northeastern Nigeria. Neighboring countries joined an offensive against the group last year and the conflict spilled across their borders, displacing tens of thousands of people.

Cameroon is also in an 8,700-strong regional force led by Nigeria against the militants.
