Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

A woman identified as Mary Olohunwa is currently hospitalized after a vicious assault by her ex-husband, Keji Ademola, in Bako Estate, Lagos, southwest Nigeria. The estate is situated in the Owode Onirin area of the state.

According to a relative of Mary, who spoke to SaharaReporters on Monday, she was accosted last Thursday on her way to her shop by her ex-husband, who proceeded to beat her and strike her with a heavy stone. Ademola allegedly claimed to have seen strange marks on their children's heads, with Mary explaining that these marks were meant to ward off spiritual attacks and protect the children.

After the brutal attack, Mary began to bleed and was promptly rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Images obtained by SaharaReporters depict Mary lying down with a bloodied face, and a video captures the apprehension of Ademola by residents after he reportedly attempted to flee.

Mary's sister revealed, "My sister is still in the hospital. The stone wounded her severely, and we have been asked to pay a medical bill of around N160,000 for her treatment."

Ademola has been handed over to the police and remains in custody. Mary's sister expressed hope that the police would not compromise their duties this time. She highlighted that this incident marked the third attempt by Ademola to harm her sister, emphasizing that their separation three years ago was due to his violent nature. Despite previous incidents, Ademola was released without punishment after being taken to Ketu Police Station.

The family is anticipating Ademola's arraignment in court, scheduled for today (Monday) at 11 am. Mary's sister voiced concerns about the potential compromise of justice, urging the police not to overlook the severity of the case.

Efforts to obtain further details from the state police command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, proved unsuccessful at the time of reporting. The community awaits justice for Mary and hopes that legal proceedings will bring accountability to her assailant.
