Yaounde: Biya to recruit 5000 soldiers, 2500 gendarme officers

Biya and his men are set to recruit more 5000 soldiers and 2500 gendarme officers to 'protect' the 'people' and the nation.
The statement was made by the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence.
Joseph Beti Assomo was speaking in Parliament.
The entrance examinations will be launched soon, he said.
Cameroon needs soldiers like any other nation for defence and security.  But in a dictatorship like this one, the army is as indispensable as milk is for the existence of a newborn baby. A tool for oppression.
But not all the recruits actually follow required procedures.
Most people avoid training due to their age.
Last week a soldier revealed to us that the elder brother of a friend of his had called to ask him how much money he could use to buy his way through without  going through any training.
Certainly, he feared dying during training, given that he is too old to endure the ordeal.
