Cameroonian Passport of Samuel Eto'o: Facing Non-Renewal?
The recent developments surrounding the Cameroonian passport of former football superstar and current President of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot), Samuel Eto'o, shed light on a brewing conflict between Eto'o and Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh, the Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Republic of Cameroon.

Tensions between the two have escalated, with Ngoh Ngoh accusing Eto'o of showing defiance and ingratitude. Ngoh Ngoh claims that Eto'o has not shown enough appreciation for the privileges he has been accorded since his election as head of Fecafoot in December 2021. These privileges include the use of the BIR's private jet for Eto'o's domestic travels, the deployment of BIR personnel for his security during private trips, and the advance cash payment of 2.7 billion CFA francs by the Cameroonian State to Fecafoot.
In response to Eto'o's perceived defiance, senior officials in the Presidency are reportedly considering not renewing Eto'o's Cameroonian passport, which is set to expire on November 12, 2024. The reason cited for this potential non-renewal is that Eto'o also holds Spanish nationality.
However, some observers speculate that there may be political motivations behind the decision not to renew Eto'o's passport. There are growing voices within the inner circle suggesting that Eto'o is preparing to enter politics. As a result, the non-renewal of his passport may be a ploy to limit his ambitions.
This escalating conflict between Eto'o and Ngoh Ngoh underscores the complex dynamics at play within Cameroonian politics. It also highlights the potential intersection between sports and politics in the country, as well as the personal rivalries that can influence significant decisions at the highest levels of government.
As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how Eto'o and Ngoh Ngoh will navigate this conflict and whether a resolution can be reached that serves the best interests of all parties involved.
