Presbyterian Paediatric Eye Hospital Acha Limbe Celebrates Milestone: Successful Child Surgery
LIMBE, Cameroon - March 15, 2024 - The Presbyterian Paediatric Eye Hospital Acha Limbe has achieved a significant milestone with its first successful child surgery. Dr. Lawrence Egbe, a pediatric ophthalmologist and the medical officer in charge, led the operation at the Limbe facility.

Treating Congenital Cataracts
The young patients underwent surgery to correct congenital cataracts, a condition present at birth that affects the eye's lens. According to Dr. Egbe, feedback from the children's guardians indicates positive outcomes.
World Glaucoma Week Alignment
This successful surgery coincided with World Glaucoma Week 2024, held from March 10th to 16th under the theme "Uniting for a Glaucoma-Free World." The Presbyterian Paediatric Eye Hospital actively participated in raising awareness about this condition.
Comprehensive Eye Care Services
The Presbyterian Paediatric Eye Hospital Acha Limbe is a valuable resource for the community, offering a range of eye care services beyond pediatric surgery. These services include:
- General eye consultations
- Refraction testing to determine corrective lens prescriptions
- Pachymetry testing to measure corneal thickness
- Visual field testing to assess peripheral vision
- Sales and fitting of corrective eyeglasses
- Adjustments and repairs of eyeglass frames
- Cataract surgery (including the 15 successfully performed)
This achievement highlights the hospital's commitment to providing high-quality pediatric eye care and improving the overall well-being of children in the Limbe region.
