Transformative Progress: Cameroon’s CHU Provides Free Childbirth and Affordable Dialysis

One of the most notable successes of Cameroon’s UHC program is the provision of free childbirth services. Over 140,416 deliveries have been covered under this initiative, significantly enhancing access to maternity care for women across the country. This measure not only alleviates financial burdens but also ensures safer deliveries and better maternal health.

Prenatal care has seen considerable improvements, with 346,395 pregnant women receiving prenatal consultations and care up to delivery for just 6,000 FCFA. The UHC initiative has also made a remarkable impact on patients suffering from renal insufficiency. A total of 1,246 patients have benefitted from a highly subsidized dialysis program, paying only 15,000 FCFA annually for their bi-weekly sessions. This is a stark contrast to the usual cost of 520,000 FCFA, demonstrating a significant reduction that makes essential treatment accessible to more individuals.

Infants are not left behind in this healthcare revolution. The UHC program has provided free medical consultations to 642,090 children up to 42 days old. This initiative ensures that newborns receive necessary medical attention from the earliest stages of life, laying the foundation for healthier futures and reducing infant mortality rates.
