CPDM raises CFA 100M to back Biya in October poll
Yaoundé, Cameroon — 9 Sept 2025 — The ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) has launched its presidential war chest in the Mefou and Afamba division, raising a staggering CFA 100 million to bolster President Paul Biya’s candidacy in the October 12 election.
Fundraising at Mfou Party House
The gathering took place Monday, September 8, at the CPDM party house in Mfou, chaired by Commerce Minister Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana. Local elites and party officials reportedly contributed generously to the kitty, presented as a “patriotic effort” to support the incumbent.
MOMO Jean de Dieu Rallies Behind Biya
Minister Delegate to the Minister of Justice, Jean de Dieu MOMO, described Paul Biya as “a great man” and insisted he was the only choice for Cameroonians on October 12 and beyond. MOMO, acting as a campaign spearhead for the CPDM in the Lékié division, declared Biya’s victory already secured.
The G20 Joins the Chorus
At a weekend rally in Monatélé, MOMO led a G20 delegation to mobilize support for Biya, alongside Henri Eyebe Ayissi and newcomer Celestin Djamen, president of APAR. The coalition of small parties, long criticized as satellites of the CPDM, framed Biya as the “resistance bearer” against any opposition challenge.
Opposition’s Prospects Dim
With the CPDM openly decreeing victory and mobilizing vast financial resources, the opposition faces the familiar uphill task of contesting an electoral process historically marred by allegations of fraud, ELECAM bias, and regime intimidation. Observers note that the real battle may not be over ballots but over who can claim — and hold — the narrative of victory.
Conclusion:
As October 12 draws near, the ruling elite’s message is clear: Biya’s 42-year grip on power must not be challenged. Whether this orchestrated fundraising and coalition rallying translates into genuine support at the polls remains the question the opposition is left to ponder.
