Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

In a horrifying incident in Limpopo, South Africa, a self-proclaimed prophet met a tragic end during a baptism ceremony when he drowned and was subsequently torn apart by crocodiles in the Olifants River. The 48-year-old man from Atok lost his life during a prayer ceremony with two others, and his remains were discovered surrounded by crocodiles on Sunday.

According to police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba, the incident occurred during a prayer ceremony in the crocodile-infested river. As the prophets prayed, one of them encountered difficulties and drowned. It is suspected that crocodiles attacked him during the baptism.

Col Ledwaba narrated, "It is suspected that he was attacked by crocodiles during the baptism ceremony." The man, part of a group of three prophets, had gone to the overflowing river to conduct the service last Sunday. Despite efforts by the other two prophets to locate their colleague, they were unsuccessful in finding him.

Local police authorities have issued a warning to residents, urging them to avoid crocodile-infested rivers for swimming or any spiritual activities. The Nile crocodile, the only variety of crocodile in South Africa, is native to freshwater habitats.

Crocodile attacks are not uncommon in Africa, and the reptiles pose a significant threat to humans in regions with their presence. Hundreds of people fall victim to crocodile attacks across the continent each year, with many incidents going unreported.

This tragic event serves as a somber reminder of the dangers associated with conducting activities in wildlife habitats and prompts authorities to emphasize caution when engaging in rituals near crocodile-infested waters. The community mourns the loss of the self-proclaimed prophet, highlighting the need for awareness and safety measures in such environments.
