Ahmed al-Zend, Egypt’s justice minister since May last year, made the controversial remark during a televised interview Friday with the Sada al-Balad channel Friday.
Zend said he would imprison any “wrongdoer” if they were found guilty of a crime, “even” the Prophet Mohammed.
Seeming to realise his error, Zend stopped immediately and said: “I ask for forgiveness from God.”
He then issued an apology in another interview on Saturday, saying his comments were a “slip of the tongue” and “meant in a hypothetical sense”, but it was not enough to save his job.
“Prime Minister Sharif Ismail decided to dismiss justice minister Ahmed al-Zind from his post,” a statement from the premier’s office said Sunday, though it did not give a specific reason for the sacking.
It followed calls on social media for Zend to be removed from his post and put on trial for his comments in a country where attitudes towards religion are still deeply conservative and blasphemy still a crime met with stern punishment, despite the government’s fierce opposition to political Islam and claims of striving for religious tolerance.

Nigerian self proclaimed prophet TB Joshua is credited by many of his followers to have accurately prophesied the sudden death of Bingu WA Mutharika who died in April of 2012. The Nigerian Prophet TB Joshua took credit on Sunday service that the late president of Malawi Bingu WA Mutharika knew that his prophecy of the death of an elderly African Head of State was talking about him.
Speaking during that Sunday service broadcasted live on his Emmanuel Television, TB Joshua also displayed what he claimed to be a letter written by President Mutharika to him.
The purported prophecy was first made on 18th March 2012 and repeated on April 1. The Maravi post reported about the prophecy but the President downplayed it when he told Malawians religious leaders that he will not die because a person wished so.
However President Peter Mutharika has told the Nigerian Prophet, T.B Joshua to stay away from his life and that of Zimbabwe’s President, Robert Mugabe.
Malawi President Peter Mutharika issued the warning last week when he was presiding over the ground breaking ceremony of a multi-million dollar Daeyang Luke Teaching Hospital in Lilongwe. The President said that he and President Robert Mugabe will live longer and that their lives are not in the hands of Prophet T.B Joshua.
Earlier this year the Nigerian preacher prophesized that one President of the Southern part of Africa will die by April this year.He recommended prayer sessions for the leaders without elaborating.
These prophecies have been widely feared to be on Malawi President Peter Mutharika and his Zimbabwean counterpart President Robert Mugabe who has seen many prophesies about his death gone unfulfilled.

In trying to reenact the tale of Daniel in the bible, a Zion Christian Church prophet who was reportedly filled with the Holy Spirit recently ‘challenged’ a lion to do battle in the Kruger National Park. Daily Post South Africa reports that the prophet initially charged towards the lions, but they called his bluff and charged back. Prophet Alec Ndiwane who is based in the Pretoria Soshanguve was with fellow church members in the Kruger National Park where they were watching animals. Sources disclose that the prophet went into a trance and started to speak in tongues. Ahead of them was a lion pride busy eating their impala.
uoyed by the “Holy Spirit”, Alec opened the car door and went charging towards the lions. Upon seeing the man running towards them, the lions could not believed that manna was coming straight from heaven and instead ran towards the prophet. Realizing that the game had changed, the prophet quickly made an immediate turn and ran back to safety. However, before he could safely reach the confines of the car, one lion had snapped its paws on him thus causing major damage to his buttocks. Witnesses say Prophet was lucky that the game ranger who was near fired some shots with his gun to scare the lion away. The injury was very severe that Alec had to be rushed to hospital for emergency surgery. The doctors affirmed the severity of the Prophet’s case, but assured that he would still have his left bum intact. Alec was eventually stitched up and discharged after spending the night in hospital.
“I do not know what came over me,” Alec confessed, adding: “I thought the Lord wanted to use me to show his power over animals. Is it not we were given dominion over all creatures of the earth.” This is not the first time a rather outrageous test of faith of this nature has been practiced in Africa. There was the case of one Pastor Franck Kabele, 35, who told his congregation that he was capable of reenacting the very miracles of Jesus Christ., one of which was walking on water. Kabele decided to make it clear through way of demonstration on Gabon’s beach in the capital city of Libreville. He took his congregation out to the beach and reportedly drowned while trying to cross by foot the Kombo estuary which is normally a 20 minute boat ride. There was also the case of a certain Prophet who claimed to be able to do what Daniel of the bible did by walking into a den full of lions. At Ibadan zoo in south-west Nigeria, the self-proclaimed prophet was warned numerous times by zoo keepers, but he thought of them as nothing more than enemies of progress.Prophet Abodunrin as his name goes, was said to have put on a long red robe and proceeded to enter the cage full of lions, with a crowd of people watching,. Witnesses disclose that within seconds of opening the door, the lions ripped the prophet from flesh to bone.
