Africa Cup of Nations 2016, 2019: Cameroon facing delay in construction of infrastructure
After the euphoria and big CPDM talks related to the organization of the African Cup of Nations women's soccer in 2016 and men in 2019, Cameroon is facing a delay in the construction and rehabilitation of infrastructure to host these sporting events. Faced with this disgusting situation, President Biya seems to have changed tactics by entrusting the preparation of Cameroon’s infrastructure to the Secretary at the Prime Minister’s office, Louis Paul Motaze.
Some reports have suggested that Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh, current Secretary General at the presidency of the republic recently instructed the former economy minister to personally take over the entire file and complete the work of financing with detail account to be handed to the Head of State for the actual construction of stadiums and related infrastructure to begin. Our chief political correspondent in Yaounde observed that “when you operate a consistently inconsistent foreign policy, you are bound to fall into uncomfortable situations like this”.
The current revelation clearly shows that the Chinese partners who were able to finance and build everything have abandoned the project. Cameroonians and members of the Confederation of African Football are yet to see the implementation of the scheme that was presented on September 1, 2015 at the Ministry of Sports by five French and a Cameroonian consultant for construction of infrastructure in Limbe and Yaounde- both cities that have been earmarked to host the Women tournament.
