Cameroon's Football Turmoil: Abdouraman Speaks Out on FECAFOOT and Stadium Dispute
As the highly anticipated match between Cameroon and Namibia on September 7, 2024, approaches, the host nation remains engulfed in chaos. Recent controversies, including the booking of two different hotels for players, have only added to the turmoil.

Abdouraman Hamadou Babba, a prominent figure in Cameroonian football, has now publicly addressed the situation, particularly the conflict between the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) and the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education (MINSEP).
In his statement, Babba highlights significant regulatory concerns, pointing out that neither the Confederation of African Football (CAF) nor FECAFOOT has the authority to impose the Roumdé-Adjia Stadium as the venue for the upcoming match. He underscores that security during major sporting events, such as this match, is the exclusive responsibility of the host state—specifically, the Cameroonian government—not FECAFOOT.
Babba argues that CAF cannot proceed with the match at the Roumdé-Adjia Stadium without the state providing all necessary security guarantees. This concern is exacerbated by a recent letter from the National Office of Sports Infrastructure and Equipment (ONIES), dated August 26, 2024, which explicitly stated that the stadium would not be available for the match.
With the state agency responsible for the stadium withdrawing its functional and security responsibilities, Babba questions how CAF can justify sending its officials and the Namibian team to a venue deemed unsafe and unavailable by the government.
To resolve this growing crisis, Babba believes that it is the Cameroonian government's responsibility—specifically through the Minister of Sports and Physical Education—to formally notify both FECAFOOT and CAF of the unavailability of the Roumdé-Adjia Stadium for the September 7 match. This step, he argues, is essential to avoid further embarrassment for Cameroon on the international stage.
As the countdown to the match continues, the situation remains uncertain, and all eyes are on the Cameroonian government to take decisive action.
