Cameroon's PM signed yesterday a decree revising the minimum wage in the country. To satisfy all parties, Joseph Dion Ngute (pictured) validated, for the first time in the country, three distinct minimum wages, depending on the activity sector.
The minimum wage for government employees covered by the Labor Code has been raised from CFA36,270 to CFA41,875. This was the minimum wage the government wanted to adopt for all sectors but after negotiations with unionists, it was finally validated only for public employees covered by the Labor Code.
Employees in the agricultural and related sectors, which according to official data represent the largest workforce in the country, will see their minimum wage increase from CFA36,270 to CFA45,000. In the non-agricultural sectors, the minimum wage has been raised to CFA60,000. As a reminder, unionists first wanted a minimum wage of CFA100,000, before finally accepting the amount of CFA60,000 proposed by the employers (Gicam and Ecam). However, they criticized the government for adopting a minimum wage for public employees and another one for the private sector “although they are all governed by the same Labor Code”. "The Cameroonian government is violating the provisions of Article 62 of the Labor Code, which mentions only one minimum wage and not several," they said.

The battery is the one aspect of smartphones that users tend to worry about the most. Although this is very challenging given that these apps drain the battery, we start thinking about different ways to reduce energy consumption and increase its battery life as soon as the device is turned on.
Although they are not always successful, we are accustomed to taking a variety of steps to extend the battery of the smartphone as much as possible. Primarily because we now know which applications are the most dangerous in this regard. Because they completely deplete energy with just the use of them.
There are countless applications for your Android device in the Google Play Store. There are services for everything, but on the whole, users tend to download the same popular apps. However, in order to best care for the battery in your smartphone. There are some of them that you should avoid downloading or using less often.
Be cautious, while some of these applications are quite helpful and should be installed on our smartphones, others can be disastrous for those who already experience battery issues. So examine whether you actually require them. The list of apps with the highest energy usage is as follows:
- Fitbit
- Uber
- Skype
- Airbnb
- Tinder
- Bumble
- Snapchat
The organization that has compiled this data is pCloud, a research firm. To achieve this, they created a list of applications that use the battery of the device the most. And the end result is shown here. No matter how great these platforms are, according to the entity, they are affecting the battery life really hard.
Actuality, they are very well popular apps, and you may have more than one of them on your phone. Since they can still use some of the battery in the background, it might be more convenient for you to get rid of some if you don’t use it frequently, especially if you’ve had battery issues in the past.
The smartphone’s most demanding applications
The research firm looked at three factors when determining which apps were the most resource-intensive on our phones. The things each app uses, such as the location or camera, the battery these applications consume, and whether the dark mode is offered.
They were able to determine which of the 100 most popular apps is the most demanding and name them the ultimate phone killers by combining the results of these three factors.
Fitbit and Verizon are the most apps that drain your battery
The two best phone competitors were Fitbit and Verizon. 14 of the 16 resources that are available can be in use by both apps in the background. Including the four most resource-intensive ones. The camera, location, microphone, and wifi connection. Due to this, these apps received the highest study score (92.31%).

(Business in Cameroon) - The Special Fund for Equipment and Inter-municipal Intervention (Feicom), teamed up with the University of Douala and the Jacky Fely Nafack Institute of Technology to develop an online platform that allows decentralized local authorities (CTD) to collect taxes from street vendors. The project, called Inform'All City, was officially presented on March 21 in Yaoundé.
Feicom invites concerned vendors to register on the platform and benefit from a selling place officially granted to them by the municipality. That way, they are legally recognized as vendors.
Under its first deployment phase, which aims to improve the collection of local tax revenues and plan urban development, the Inform'All City platform will focus on Yaoundé II and Douala III, the political and economic capitals of the country, we learned.

Cameroon’s mobile operators recently suspended 891,082 phone numbers deemed non-compliant, telecom regulator ART announced on March 3, 2022.
The suspended numbers represent about 3.34% of the 26,623,923 numbers registered phone numbers in the ART’s identification database. Stil, 94,882 other non-compliant numbers are active pending the regularization of their situation.
According to the telecom regulator, those numbers deemed non-compliant are usually registered under fake names using fake identification documents or even documents lost by their real owners. When numbers are registered under fake names, it becomes difficult to trace the user when crimes are committed using them.
To protect citizens against the sheer number of crimes committed using phone numbers (thefts, blackmail, defamation, cybercrime, etc.), the government introduced regulations governing communication. On December 21, 2010, a law was adopted governing electronic communications and, on September 3, 2015, a decree was issued making it compulsory to identify mobile subscribers.
Thanks to those regulatory frameworks, security services can find the user of a SIM card when need be and catch criminals who use phones for illegal activities. It also helps operators know who their subscribers are, identify them during emergency calls, facilitate access to roaming and even prevent the use of SIM cards for acts that undermine public security.

Throughout 2021, the coronavirus pandemic has continued to have significant impacts on sales in Cameroon. This is one of the conclusions in the National Institute of Statistics (INS)’s report on the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic on businesses in the country that year. "About eight out of ten firms reported a decline in sales in the thirty days that preceded the survey [ed. note: the survey was carried out in July 2021] (...) compared to the same period in 2020," the aforementioned report reads.
In other words, over the May-June 2021 period at least, sales were less dynamic year-on-year. According to the INS report, all company sizes were affected. Specifically, 72% of the informal production units (IPU) surveyed, 75% of the large companies, and 78% of SMEs reported the same fact. This hints at the generalized nature of the problem.
The most affected industries are forestry and logging (85.7% of the surveyed firms), the food industry (87.5%), and other manufacturing industries (80.6%).
The INS does not provide reasons to explain the year-to-year sales decline. However, on closer observation, it appears the strong sales recorded by businesses in 2020 may be due to the massive purchases made by households when they were fearing total confinement at the peak of the health crisis.
At the same time, the comparative decline in those sales in 2021 can be explained by the overall rise in prices in markets as a result of the explosion of shipping costs, increase in the price of raw materials in international markets and supply chain disruptions during the pandemic.
