Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

Mbengwi, Cameroon - October 1, 2024* – Two armed bandits of Mbororo extraction were apprehended by the courageous residents of Acha-Tugi village, in the outskirts of Mbengwi, the capital of Momo Division in the Northwest Region of Cameroon.

The bandits, part of a four-man gang, were caught following an attempted robbery at a local business establishment in Sanyere quarters (Achu-Tugi) on Sunday night.

The community's swift response led to the capture of two of the assailants, while two others managed to flee the scene. According to eyewitness accounts, a brave local businessman, who chose to remain anonymous, fought off one of the robbers and raised the alarm, prompting the intervention of the villagers.

During their interrogation, the captured bandits made a chilling confession: they admitted to the murder of prominent businessman John Conerben, who was killed at his residence in Njinibi approximately three months ago (Cameroon Concord) reported. The bandits further disclosed their involvement in a string of criminal activities, including armed robberies, kidnappings, and break-ins that have left the Mbengwi Subdivision in a state of insecurity.

The two suspects are now in military custody, and authorities have seized two firearms believed to have been used in their previous crimes. The confessions of the detained men have brought a wave of relief to the community, as many hope their arrest will mark a turning point in the fight against rising insecurity in the region.

For months, villages in Mbengwi have suffered from increasing violence and banditry, with criminals terrorizing residents through theft, kidnappings, and, in some cases, murder. The capture of these bandits has reignited hope for a safer and more secure environment.

While two of the armed men remain on the run, the people of Mbengwi Subdivision are hopeful that the local authorities, in cooperation with the community, will continue their efforts to track down the remaining suspects. The arrest of these bandits is seen as a significant step toward restoring peace in the area, but questions remain as to whether this will truly bring an end to the region's insecurity.

The residents of Acha-Tugi and surrounding villages have been praised for their bravery and solidarity, and local leaders are calling for continued vigilance in the face of ongoing challenges.
