The Cameroon Society of Epidemiology is currently undertaking a one-year national survey of the incidence of snake bites in the country. The study, which began last December 2014, ends in December 2015. After 41 weeks of activity, the figures are alarming – 32 deaths and 1,869 people bitten by snakes in the country. According to the President of the Cameroon Society of Epidemiology, Dr Armand Nkwescheu, the three northern regions of Far North, North and Adamawa, account for 739 of the 1,869 cases or 40 per cent. Correspondingly, 23 of the 32 deaths were also in the three northern regions, giving a total of 72 per cent. Only the South West and North West Regions are yet to record any deaths since the survey began.
Statistics show that Cameroon has about 150 snake species, out of which 32 are venomous. Dr Nkwescheu explained that the toll of morbidity caused by amputations and other consequences of snake bites are high. He added that snake bites kill more people each year than either poliomyelitis or measles. Women, children and farmers in poor rural communities suffer more from snake bites. However, facilities to manage snake bites are not adequate in many health centres in Cameroon. Health staffs are not often abreast with new developments and quite often, anti-venom serum for treating patients is expensive and most of the times completely absent.
The Cameroon Society of Epidemiology has announced the organization of an international workshop on managing snake bites from November 4-6, 2015 in Yaounde. The workshop is intended to empower at least 100 health professionals for optimal care of snake bite victims in Cameroon. The training will be sponsored by the Ministry of Public Health in collaboration with the African Society of Venimology.

Cameroon Concord Intelligence Unit has been reliably informed that all is now set for the arrest and subsequent trial of three former cabinet ministers dropped after the October 2nd, 2015 reorganization of the CPDM government by President Biya. At the request of the Special Criminal Court, some of them have had their passports confiscated by the judicial police. We gathered that Lazare Essimi Menye, former Minister of Agriculture, Robert Nkili ex-transport minister and Jean Biyiti Bi Essam former Minister of Post and Telecommunications are prominent among other CPDM personalities to appear before judges of the Special Criminal Court to defend their honor against accusations of embezzlement and misappropriation of state funds.
Earlier today, our source at the Special Criminal Court revealed that the arrest of former minister Jean Pierre Biyiti Bi Essam is eminent. During his time as Secretary General in the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, 3 billion FCFA was misappropriated. He was also questioned some few months ago about fictitious mission expenses estimated at 30 million CFA francs which he reportedly refunded. Lazare Essimi Menye, now suffering from a stroke was interrogated on January 13, 2015 in the office of the Minister for Justice by investigators from the Special Criminal Court. The Lazare Essimi affair carries a 9 billion FCFA accusation in the rehabilitation of Amity Bank and also that of a 50 million FCFA involving the defunct Cameroonian Tobacco Company. Former Minister Robert Nkili, was given a serious grilling at his home on October 12, 2015 in a case concerning the acquisition of the Chinese MA-60 aircraft which till this day is still not functional.

A gospel crusade rally held on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at the Reunification Stadium in Bepanda, Douala by Nigerian preacher Suleman Johnson ended controversially following a stampede that left one person dead and 20 others seriously injured. As earlier reported by Cameroon Concord face book team, the Pastor Suleman Johnson meeting recorded an attendance more than the Cameroon-Ghana football encounter played 17 years ago in the same stadium.
Cameroon Concord learned that immediately after the religious ceremony, people began to leave the stadium when an incident occurred that generated panic. Hospital sources have so far confirmed just one dead and about 20 injured. The organizers of the event announced at the time of filing this report that the roof of Tribune B that collapsed created a state of fear that culminated to the disaster.

Ever since the inception of the mobile telephone company MTN Cameroon and its suspicious huge pay package, there have been too many mysterious deaths within the company. From Bamenda via Buea to Douala and now Yaounde, the story has been the same- MTN employees are dying like flies and in funny circumstances. This begs the question: Do they operate a “Nyongho” house in the company?
Recently, Pauline Hiol Laure, a 29 years old senior employee of MTN at the Yaounde regional office was found dead in her home in Anguissa neighborhood. Her body was discovered in an advanced state of decomposition. Like in every MTN case, the circumstances of her death remains unclear. Colleagues of the late mother of a five year old daughter have revealed that she was not sick and she lived alone in her modest home at Anguissa.
It is rumored in Cameroon that to gain employment with MTN, the applicant needs to perform some rituals that includes sacrificing some family relatives or friends.
