In yet another incident highlighting the increasing insecurity in Douala, a woman fell victim to an assault at her residence in the Kotto neighborhood early on Saturday morning. The assailants, a gang comprised of two females, an armed military personnel carrying an assault rifle, and a young man wielding a dagger, ransacked her home.
The victim reported that the criminals, who stormed into her residence around 8:30 - 9:00 AM, assaulted her before making off with a sum of 3,600,000 CFA, her passport, and a watch. The entire operation lasted less than 15 minutes. Upon their departure, the woman raised an alarm, attracting neighbors and passersby who recognized one of the female assailants. Subsequent Facebook searches provided photos of the suspects.
This incident adds to the growing insecurity in Douala. Previously, on September 24, armed individuals invaded a meeting of the "Femmes Solidaires et Entrepreneuses" association, robbing them of 1.4 million CFA, the result of 11 months of contributions. The assailants, armed with knives and a firearm, attacked during the distribution of funds after the meeting. One victim was stabbed in the shoulder while resisting, and the entire contribution was stolen.
The escalating incidents of crime underscore the urgent need for increased security measures and law enforcement efforts in the city.

The situation at GHS Oku School has taken a dire turn with the abduction of the Principal, Motika Emmanuel, over a week ago, as he was on his way to distribute report cards to students at the end of the first term.
According to information from the CNA, he allegedly paid 1.5 million CFA out of the 6.5 million CFA demanded as ransom for his release. A substantial amount reportedly demanded by his captors.
However, the situation took a concerning twist when Motika was compelled to post a message on his Facebook page. In this message, he seeks the assistance of the manager of his account at BAPCUL in Bamenda, Northwest Region, to lend him 5 million CFA to complete the ransom demanded by the kidnappers.
He described the situation as "life-threatening" and pleaded with the manager to release the funds for his wife. No active group in the troubled region has claimed responsibility for this abduction. However, the kidnappers have declared a ban on all school activities in the region and view Motika's presence as a violation of their order.
This incident has sparked growing concern within the educational community and local authorities. The kidnapping of the Principal has underscored the escalating challenges faced by schools and educational personnel in conflict-affected regions.
Authorities have been urged to act swiftly to ensure the safety and release of Motika Emmanuel. The ransom demand and distress message on social media have raised significant alarm, emphasizing the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to the situation in these troubled areas.
