The community of Makepe Missoké mourns the untimely death of a 25-year-old man named Francky, a professional staffeur. Eneo Cameroon, the power utility company, is urged to witness the consequences of its actions in the area known as "pont cassé" (broken bridge). The gravity of the situation is apparent, as the neighborhood has been plunged into total darkness since Monday, December 18, until Thursday, December 21.
Francky, upon returning home on the night of Wednesday, December 20, found no respite from the pervasive blackout. Unable to endure another night without electricity, he took it upon himself to inspect the cables, hoping to restore power to his home. Tragically, this brave endeavor led to his sudden departure, a result of a fatal electrocution at 380 watts.
The loss of Francky leaves a profound sadness in the hearts of those who knew him. His determination to address the power outage personally reflects the frustration and desperation faced by the community due to prolonged darkness. As we bid farewell to Francky, may he rest in peace, his memory serves as a poignant reminder of the urgent need for reliable and secure electrical infrastructure.
This tragic incident emphasizes the critical role of Eneo Cameroon in ensuring the safety and well-being of the citizens it serves. The community calls for immediate action to rectify the power outage issue, preventing future losses like Francky's and safeguarding the lives of residents in Makepe Missoké.

A tense atmosphere envelopes Yaoundé, the political capital of Cameroon, as a financial scandal unfolds at the residence of the Director of the Civil Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic. Several individuals have been apprehended in connection with the incident. According to sources, Mvondo Ayolo, accusing his housekeeper, one Mete'e Marie-Joseph, of stealing 1 billion XAF from his home, had him abducted along with three others on December 5th in Yaoundé by unidentified individuals, as reported by whistleblower Paul Chouta .
The three others, suspected accomplishments of Marie-Joseph, include Zeh Meka Rodrigue, the elder brother of Mete’e Marie-Joseph and the driver of Aminatou Ahidjo, the Chairperson of the Palais des Congrès; Ongono Bibiche, the companion of Zeh Meka Rodrigue; and Mebanga Marguerite, a businesswoman and sister (cousin) of Mete’e Marie-Joseph and Zeh Meka Rodrigue. According to our source, the Director of the Civil Cabinet suspects Mete'e Marie-Joseph of bringing a bag of money to his home and distributing it, hiding it in different places, notably at the residence of his elder brother Zeh Meka Rodrigue and his sister Mebanga Marguerite. She would be taken to where Zeh Meka Rodrigue and his girlfriend Ongono Bibiche were already located. All of them underwent torture and inhumane treatment. In the heart of Bambilli, frustration has gripped students residing in Up Quarters and University Street, specifically, as a burnt transformer has cast them into darkness for almost a month. The plight of these students, grappling with the absence of electricity, paints a vivid picture of the challenges they face in pursuing their academic endeavors.
For students living around Mushong, Agric School Street, CCAST Complex, and other localities in Up Quarters and University Street, the experience has been nothing short of exasperating. What initially seemed like regular power cuts, a common occurrence, took a turn for the worse when the residential area was plunged into absolute darkness on the 9th of December, and the situation persists.
Nkeh Kingsley, a student residing on University Street, shares his struggle, having to relocate to a friend's mini-cite at Down Quarters. The absence of electricity has disrupted his ability to follow up on classes, carry out research for assignments, and participate in continuous assessments. Despite the challenges, he remains optimistic, stating, "I know electricity will soon return, and things will get better."
Ndam Kenneth, another student in Up Quarters, expresses his frustration, emphasizing the annoying nature of the prolonged power outage. The inability to study in the early hours of the morning, a routine he once followed, has added another layer of difficulty to his academic life.
Lukong Claris, a student residing on University Street, sheds light on the financial toll the power outage has taken. She reveals using almost all of her pocket allowance to print notes, assignments, and pay for device charging. The increased costs, attributed to the reliance on generators due to the power outage, highlight the ripple effects on students' budgets.
The significance of electricity to the academic community, especially students, cannot be understated. The disruption caused by the prolonged power outage emphasizes the urgent need for intervention from the appropriate authorities. Students' ability to excel in their studies, access information, and carry out essential academic tasks is hindered, impacting not only their individual progress but also the overall academic environment.
As we hear the voices of these frustrated students, it is a call to action for the relevant authorities to address the lapses in student residential areas promptly. Restoring electricity is not just about flipping a switch; it's about restoring the pathway to education and creating an environment where students can thrive.

In a devastating turn of events, the Mile 4 market in Nkwen, Bamenda, fell victim to a fire late Saturday night, leaving at least 10 shops in ruins. The aftermath of the incident is particularly heart-wrenching as most of the contents were items recently acquired by traders for sale during this festive period.
The confirmation from municipal authorities and the army rescue unit in Bamenda underscores the urgent need for coordinated efforts in response to this crisis. As the community grapples with the immediate aftermath, it is crucial to reflect on the potential long-term impact on the affected traders and the local economy.
Mayor Fongu Cletus of the Bamenda III Council's swift announcement of a commission of inquiry is a step in the right direction. Such a commission can play a vital role in evaluating the damages, understanding the circumstances that led to the fire, and determining the best course of action for the affected shops.
The decision to assess whether the shops should be immediately reconstructed or integrated into a larger C2D (Debt Reduction-Development Contract) project for the entire market in 2024 reflects a thoughtful approach. It presents an opportunity to not only address the immediate needs of the affected traders but also to consider the broader infrastructure and development plans for the market.
In times of crisis, community support becomes paramount. The affected traders, many of whom invested heavily in their inventory for the festive season, will need assistance to rebuild their livelihoods. It's a call to action for the local community, NGOs, and government agencies to come together and provide support, be it financial aid, temporary shelter, or resources to help these traders get back on their feet.
As we look toward the future, there's an opportunity for the commission of inquiry to engage with the community, gather insights, and involve affected traders in the decision-making process. Inclusivity ensures that the response is not just efficient but also sensitive to the needs and aspirations of those directly impacted.
While the incident is undoubtedly a setback, it also serves as a reminder of the resilience embedded in communities. The people of Nkwen have faced challenges before and have emerged stronger. The reconstruction and revitalization of the Mile 4 market can be a symbol of community solidarity, where everyone plays a role in rebuilding what was lost.
In conclusion, the Mile 4 market fire demands a comprehensive and empathetic response from both authorities and the community. It's an opportunity to showcase the strength of unity and the commitment to supporting those in need during challenging times.
