This is panic time for Jean Paul Nana Sandjo, former MD of Camair Co, the Cameroonian public airline, who was dismissed on 22 August 2016. Fearing legal proceedings, he attempted, on 31 August at 4 A.M., to board a Royal Air Maroc flight, to reach New York, USA. With a US passport, we learned from authorises sources.
Indeed, our sources indicate, since his dismissal, the Cameroonian passport of this former MD of Camair Co was seized by the Police, and his description sent to all the airports in the country, to be added to the black list of personalities banned from leaving Cameroonian soil until further notice.
This setup, which is generally a forewarning of imminent legal action against the interested parties, led Jean Paul Nana Sandjo to imagine a scheme, which consisted in leaving Cameroon using a different nationality. Our sources even declare that the booking made for the Royal Air Maroc flight by the former MD of Camair Co was first done under his spouse's name, before the revelation, at the last minute, of the true identity of the passenger. After being removed from the airport and questioned at the Criminal Investigation Department of the police, the former Camair Co MD was able to reunite with his family.
For the moment, no formal court action has been started against him, but information picked from Camair Co are sufficient to inform on the reasons for Jean Paul Nana Sandjo’s worries. Indeed, we learned, this Camair Co administrator, who later became MD of the company, was known for conflicts of interest, which were detrimental to the company.
Internal sources in this over-indebted public company list, for example, contracts for the rent of aircraft, engines and other spare parts, done at exorbitant prices with foreign service providers, whose legal representative in Cameroon was sometimes the former MD of Camair Co himself, and whose brokerage activity (provider of spare parts for aircraft) is very well known in the country.

The Consulate General of Nigeria for the South West and North West Regions of Cameroon remained open yesterday (1 September, 2016) and went about its daily business with the current Consul General, Dan Wari Nwazim, on sit in his Bokwaongo office. Their eight official staff and the local 22 employees were at work. Cameroon Tribune was in their office and contacted an official in the Consulate General and was told that there has been no closure of the mission whatsoever.
Early this week, stories drummed wild by word of mouth and on some local tabloids that the Buea Consulate General, one of the three Nigerian Diplomatic missions that cater for over four million Nigerians in Cameroon, after the Yaounde High Commission and the Douala Consulate was one of the seven earmarked for closure. A Diplomat at the Consulate, who explained the criteria for closure of a diplomatic mission to include the fact that a commission must be sent from the mother Country to evaluate the assets, establish the liabilities and report back home for and act to be dressed up ordering the closure of the mission. None of that has been seen in the Consulate General in Buea so far, our source disclosed.
It happened that, on taking over at the helm of Nigerian Federal Government last year, the Buhari Government declared financial austerity to include the closure of seven diplomatic missions that did not meet certain criteria. Such criteria good for closure as indicated by the Nigerian committee set up for that purpose included those missions without property like buildings and land, missions not generating up to a certain amount of money through visas and passports, a mission that might have been closed at least once in the past 20 years.
Of the five criteria, the Buea mission fails only one that of not making money on visas and passport owing to the policies between the two countries whereby citizens from both countries can visit vis versa for up to 90 Days without any visa. So, there is no genuine need except people are staying longer.

Some 367 Government Secondary School teachers who initiated their own transfers, have been ordered to return to their initial schools.
The decision was made by the Minister of Secondary Education Jean Ernest Bibehe after a thorough cross check of their files by the Human Resource Management of the Ministry.
According to officials at the Ministry of Secondary Education, 369 files in question were cross checked out of which only 2 were genuine. Moreover, out of the 369 files, only 146 teachers in question presented their documents as demanded by the Ministry.
It is but normal that the others did not border to present theirs since they are mindful of the foul game.
It was also reviewed that some of the fake transfers were orchestrated by some government officials. To this, the Ministry has embarked into strict investigation to track down the said unscrupulous agents.
The teachers in question are expected in their initial Schools latest on 1st September 2016, after which their Principals will have to establish certificates of resumption which will be forwarded to the Ministry of Secondary Education by 30th September 2016.
Any teacher who fails to adhere the call will receive sanctions from both the Ministry of Secondary Education and the Public Service.

The Esu vs Baba Danpullo land crisis that has been on for years now today took an ugly twist as hundreds of women, men and children took to the streets in protest.
The aggrieved villagers who embarked on a protest march early today from Esu are amongst other things demanding the immediate release of some indigenes of the locality who are currently being detained at a facility in Bamenda.
They were arrested and whished- off to Bamenda some months back and have since been standing trial at a court in Bamenda.
Today’s protest march was unprecedented.
The Esu youth development association, EYDA reported earlier on facebook that those who took part in the protest march numbered over 10.000. They were however intercepted around “Big Compound” along the Esu –Weh stretch of road by some combat-ready Gendarme elements.
The sub-prefect for Fungom later visited the scene of the incident hours after.
Sources in Wum say, the villagers were about marching to Bamenda to visit those detained.
“Enough is enough’’ voices could be heard saying.
“ Baba Danpullo must go” others shouted shortly before the arrival of the DO.
“Immediately land was allocated to Alhadji Baba in Esu, he embarked on an expansionist policy and he presently occupies 75% of Esu land and the Esu population has nowhere to farm.
Despite the fact that the Esu people started complaining to the administration since 1987 about the expansionist policies of Alhadji Baba, no positive action has been taken to redress the situation.
A majority of the Esu population drink water from streams. The cattle of the Elba Ranch pollute these streams and worst of it, the dips where the cattle are disinfected are emptied in these streams and after drinking polluted water, the population gets sick on regular bases.
I have a list of 135 family heads who have been evicted from their ancestral land with their wives, children and animals, by Alhadji Baba.
More than 500 Esu villagers therefore and 10.000 animals have been evicted in Esu by Alhadji Baba.
So many people have died as a result of frustration and many more presently leave a frustrated life in Esu as a result of Alhadji Baba’s stay in Esu.
The prison in Wum is floaded by Esu people imprisoned by Alhadji Baba, talk less of those detained without just cause” the Fon of Esu had said in a press statement.

My Arrest and Release, Arrest of Derrick JATO
On Sunday August 28, 2016 I received a call from Derrick Jato, Equinoxe Television Correspondent in Buea who has been in detention at the 3rd Police District in Muea, Buea, that he was ill.
I took off for Buea and arrived there by 1pm that same Sunday, I saw other sympathizers who have been following up the case. I then went to meet with the police Commissioner, a certain NDOUMBE, but was told by his secretary that he was busy. I went again the second time and was told he just left. During that time, seeing my colleague lying on two chairs joined together to resemble a bed, looking frail, I decided to take video with my phone where he narrated the story. At that time the Police Commissioner was there watching me without my knowledge and pretended as if he wasn’t aware.
As I finished the interview, he came in and asked me to surrender my phone, bag and identify myself. I resisted because he had no identification; he was dressed in civilian. When I resisted after three attempts, he used force to seize my bag and two phones. Called his collaborators to put be behind bars for taking video in police station, resisting and disobedience. At that time he had taken my Press Card, phones and bags.
My statement was taken and I was asked to stay behind the ‘Counter’ for close to four hours.
Seems some calls were made after several persons intervened, he came and asked me to leave the Counter and follow him to his office where he made sure I delete the video I took, which was done.
But he never knew I had other photos in my other phone; the photos of Derrick you will fine below looking frail on a temporal sick bed.
I was released just at the time when the Chief of Cabinet at the Governor’s office came down upon instructions from the Governor to demand for my release.
GENESIS OF ARREST OF DERICK
Back in November 2015,a certain Tamfu met Derrick and proposed that a woman by name Bruhilda TANGEM was broke and needed to sell her car LT 222 CA. They all agreed at 1 000,000 FCFA. Derrick reportedly paid all the money in four instalments to the broker, TAMFU, who was expected to give to the owner, TANGEM.
In January2016, Derrick compiled documents, including signature of the lady and sales certificate and deposited at level of Transport Delegation for transfer of ownership and paid 130000 as charges. That document is still to come out.
That same January, we are told the owner of the car did not receive her money from the broker, so she summoned him, TAMFU, at Muea police station and they agreed that the broker will pay her money or give her a new car, for misappropriation.
Eight months now, the broker has not given the new car and the former owner of the present car now transformed into a taxi, went to the police and complained that her car has been stolen.
Derrick is arrested and forced to bring the car to the police station. But assistant state Council on duty after examining the report said Derrick should bring the documents of the Car. At the regional delegation for transport, the day he registered the document is there, but they cannot produce the said documents, eight months after.
Derrick has been detained since Wednesday, never appeared before state council even after spending more than 48 hours.
So the question we all as colleagues and even Barrister Kameni, the defense council is why should the woman sign an earlier agreement to have another car but comes back to claim ownership of the old one?
The woman in her early 40s was at the Muea Police station and kept insisting that she needs her car back, she reveals that the said broker, TAMFU, is nowhere to be found and that he has not responded to any of her calls.
It is alleged that Barrister Kameni insulted the state council, madam Mba and that she has vowed together with the Attorney General for South West to make the legal consultant and his client to suffer for insulting the state council.
.
The case has mobilized the entire region and it seems it is taking a tribal twist. It is even alleged that the woman has been sleeping with the broker that is still to be verified. It is also alleged that the two could be playing a deal to take the money of Derrick, connive and re-take the car.
Derrick is still in prison but will appear before the state council this Monday where his release is eminent.
The fight to release Derrick started with a step but we are there.
Thanks all for your unflinching support

Drivers plying the wum-bamenda stretch of road that almost became impassable recently have reached an agreement with the mayor of Wum, Dighambong Anthony to step down passenger fare along the less than 80km road.
The fare is most likely to drop to 3500 down from 5000frs, we are told.
Last month when the road conditions became worse, drivers in Bamenda unilaterally stepped up transport fares despite protest from passengers.
Passengers have since been paying the collosal 5000frs until yesterday when the Mayor of Wum who is also president of all CPDM mayors in the north west virtually went cap- in -hand to plead with the drivers to step down the fare. He reportedly met with officials of the drivers union at the motor park at mile 8 Tuesday.
The decision to reduce the fare by the drivers has been saluted as it comes barely two weeks to school resumption. Many a parents had been worried on how their children will return to Wum with the poor state of the road.
Just yesterday, we gathered that horrible spots along the road had been filled with seawall rendering movement somewhat smooth .
The decision to step down the fare comes days after North west governor had banned heavy duty vehicles from plying the road. Trucks transporting sand from obang in bafut sub division are believed to be responsible for the bad state of road. The bafut council generates huge revenue from the activities of the truck drivers.
It is unclear who is in charge of maintaining the road though Hon Wallang Richard is being cited by some sources as the man responsible of putting the road in good shape.Hon wallang who is said to be in the US has since maintained sealed lips on the issue.
In the early 2000s , passengers paid 1000frs to get to Bamenda but the amount has since witnessed an astronomical increase due to the dilapidated nature of the road .
There are hopes the road might only be tarred with the coming of the Menchum falls dam which has provocatively been dragging too for pretty long.
The Wum Bamenda stretch of road is part of the ring road which Biya Paul, 84 promised to personally supervise its tarring over two decades ago.
Menchum and Donga Mantung are the only two divisions not linked to the regional headquarters Bamenda by tarred road.
Menchum has since 2007 been loyal to Biya's CPDM
party. In 2007 the division scored a 100% during the twin polls of that year. But as Mayor Dighambong Anthony whom I personally endear will put it" dividedness and infighting has prevented us from growing"
