Jean Ernest Ngalle Bibehe, Cameroon's Minister of Secondary Education (MINESEC), has just taken several measures to ensure the smooth running of secondary schools nationwide. This includes the summoning of some 369 teachers who are suspected to have abandoned their posts of assignments.
369 school teachers in total from all regions of Cameroon have been summoned by MINESEC to justify the carrying out of their functions , Cameroon Concord has learned from internal sources.
MINESEC, aims to evenly distribute teachers to marginalized institutions , boost new breath of oxygen in human resources all over schools in rural and remote areas, and to ensure that the teachers posted to these regions perform their duties accordingly, according to an explanatory note from the Ministry of Secondary Education.
According to information circulation within MINESEC, most new teachers assigned to remote areas of Cameroon, often desert their duty stations in search for better living conditions in nearby urban cities. This practise has been noted especially in major cities like Douala, Yaoundé, Bafoussam, and other regional capitals that offer minimum modernity.
In its new policy, MINESEC wants to put an end to this practise. The Minister of Secondary Education intends to build in sufficient quantity and quality in all institutions of the public secondary educational system in Cameroon,an a dedicated staff to take on the task of its services.
After the sanitation campaign initiated by MINESEC, those teachers who are found guilty of having abandoned their posts of assignments, will be subjected to heavy penalties .
