Early reports indicated that the Man who exchanged gun shots for hours with some gendarmes on duty at the MBOPPI Gendarme Brigade was an ex Gendarme officer who came back to take revenge after his expulsion.Gun shots were heard since Wednesday night breaking Thursday with circulation paralyzed, there was total panic in Douala Thursday.
But a release from the communication service of competent ministry says the man who fired gun shots was 25 years old and was a thief that was caught in MBOPPI. The man was finally killed after he failed to surrender.
Pressmen were forced to come back to what they wrote, now quoting the release.
But there are many unanswered questions here.
How did the young thief get hold of munition to scare the Gendarmes?
Gun shots started since Wednesday night, meaning he planned the act in advance with enough reserve to challenge dozens of Gendarmes??
When an incident happens, the name of the culprit is easily given to journalists, gendarmes or police even write on their chests, why has the name of the assailant not made known???
Was it a common thief as National Gendarmerie claims or was it a former Gendarme officer as early press reports suggest???

One person has been has been killed and the office of the commander of the of the Mboppi gendarmerie Brigade in Douala has been shattered following a shootout in the early hours of June 16 2016. Witnesses heard gunshots for the greater part of the night.
There are controversies on the origins of the gunshots.Security sources first related it to a detainee of about 30 years old who is said to have escaped from his cell and made his way into an armory from where he began opening fire, apparently in an attempt to escape. Though not fully identified at the time of filing in this report, concordant sources said the ‘assailant’ is reportedly a gendarme officer who was dismissed from the corps. Information from other sources indicated that the ‘assailant’ visited as a former colleague and demanded the use of the toilet.
He latter hid himself in the ceiling of the brigade from 5:00 pm till 10:00 and after stealing a ‘bag’ of bullets and a gun. He is reported to have latter fallen off the ceiling late at night. The said fall created panic within the gendarmerie camp prompting everyone to be on alert. Elements of the Groupement Polyvalent d’Intervention de La Gendarmerie National, GPIGN, who were called in, were forced to cordon off the entire area to limit the damages from reaching the civilian population in the several hours of shootout that ensured. No security source was able to confirm information from other sources which said the incident followed an attempt by a group of armed men to liberate some of their alleged accomplices who were being detained.
What has so far been accepted by the different sources is the fact that the suspect was bullet ridden beyond recognition and killed. His corpse was transported to the Bonanjo military hospital morgue pending investigations. Circulation from SCDP through the crowded Mboppi Market and from the Camp Yabassi end of the road was seriously paralyzed. Shops in the Mboppi market are gradually being opened.
Additional reporting from Chris Thobie and Triyah Swebu.

On June 15, 2016, as part of the U.S. Embassy’s Gender Equity Working Group programming, Peace Corps Cameroon volunteers gave presentations on their work at the grassroots levels to mobilize adolescent girls and young women to improve healthy lifestyles.
Welcoming guests, Deputy Chief of Mission Matthew D. Smith thanked Peace Corps volunteers for their service in Cameroon and noted that the program represented the United States’ commitment to promote women’s empowerment hand in hand with Cameroonian communities. See Facebook album of program
One volunteer, Jonathan Keenan, uses soccer as a tool to educate youth about HIV/AIDS, empower girls to make healthy decisions, and engage the community to support healthy lifestyles among adolescent girls and young women. During his presentation, he said “ During one soccer activity, we only allowed the girls to score. Any scores made by the boys were not counted. The point of the activity was to emphasize that women’s contributions are just as important.” Caitlin O’Donnell, a Youth Development Peace Corps Volunteer in Kumbo, is doing a series of trainings with Bororo women around the North West through a series of gender empowerment workshops. “ Several of our workshops are done in the presence of traditional leaders. That provides youth, particularly girls, with a safe space to voice their views. It also gives elders an opportunity to discover the immense contributions towards development that youth bring to the table.”
Among the guests were Senator Madeleine Haoua from the Adamawa region, girl and boy athletes from the Cameroon American Football Association, Rose Mbole Epie, CRTV journalist and anchor for the Monday Show, and Irine Epie, painter of the Reunification Monument in Buea.

The family of Ndi Ekoto Achille, a 24-year-old welder, does not know what next to do. He died after electrocution by a low-lying Energy of Cameroon, Eneo high-tension cable in the Blondeau neighbourhood, about 14 km from downtown Yaounde on the highway to the Nsimalen-Yaounde International Airport. Today, the family owes more than 500,000 FCFA to the Yaounde Central Hospital and is thus unable to go ahead with the burial of the decomposed body. This is after spending over 2 million FCFA to save his life.
Ndi Ekoto Achille died in the Yaounde Central Hospital on May 31, 2016, following the accident of April 29, 2016. According to his uncle, Mano Ekoto Roger, a welder with whom Ndi Ekoto Achille trained, the incident happened between 9 am and 10 am as Ndi was transporting construction rods across the neighbourhood street to his makeshift workshop. The cable, said to have been hanging about six metres above the ground, hit the 5.80-metre-long rod, electrocuting him from the neck right to the feet. Contacted a few days after the accident, Eneo officials at the regional office in downtown Yaounde asked the family to write a formal complaint; which they immediately did.
Sometime after, Eneo national head office in Douala replied, explaining that Ndi Ekoto Achille’s case could not be taken care of because the company was not responsible for the accident. When Cameroon Tribune met Tcheme Joel, the Head of Department for Hygiene, Security and Environment, in the Eneo regional office in Yaounde on June 6, 2016, he said the journalist’s version of what happened was not what was contained in complaint written by Mano Ekoto Roger.
Tcheme insisted that the accident was not the responsibility of Eneo, even when the reporter pointed out that the high-tension cable was hanging as low as six metres above the ground. And that as pointer to the fact that something was wrong, an Eneo subcontractor planted another electricity pole at the scene of the accident a few days before Ndi’s death. The new, higher pole has lifted the height of the cable to about 12 metres now. “As far as my department is concerned, the matter is already foreclosed, except the family wants to go to court,” Tcheme Joel concluded on an insistent note.
